Technology - Computer/Tablet Coding

This resource is a great starting of place for those that would like to incorporate coding into their STEAM/STEM or technology lessons.
This resource includes 5 different "stations" that could be done as a whole class activity, or more like traditional ELL and math learning centres.
There are two reading pages included to help students better understand binary coding and block coding.
The coding "challenge journal” has been tested with students in grades 4-7. Each task provided students with enough challenge that the tasks could be completed in two 40-50 minute periods. Students are asked reflective questions in each of the tasks.

3D Printing Name Block Directions for Solidworks

You're about to start a Robotics Unit and you're looking for an informative and FUN way to introduce students to robots. THis Web Quest gives them the history of robots, looks at different types of robots and includes thought provoking video links.
They'll browse the websites of world leaders in robots, both humanoid and manufacturing. They'll complete charts and tables. They'll answer critical thinking questions.

Events of the Progressive Era - Research & Presentation Project in Canva

This unit connects learning with technology to Social Studies. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson. No download is required to use Canva (www.canva.com) - a free product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning. Options for using Microsoft PowerPoint or Google slides are also included, if the teacher prefers this option.
In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create a presentation about a topic of interest related to the Progressive Era from a provided list after researching the topic. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet and also supplied in Prezi, to create a finished presentation that explains their topic, and add their own opinions and insights to the project.
This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Progressive Era. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

This is a two week unit that introduces Scratch and includes a cluminating activity. Students will learn the basics of Scratch coding and then show off their knowledge with a Scratch animation based on a story that they create.
Coding - Students learn to code objects in Scratch! Animations, backgrounds, letters, characters, scenery...they learn how to insert and animate all of these different objects.
Writing - Students will write a one page fairy tale and then animate the fairy tale using Scratch! they learn how to use the screen record tool in PowerPoint to bring their fairy tale into their slide show.
Sharing - We take a day or two where everyone loads their fairy tale on the computers and we walk around reading & watching everyone's fairy tales.

History of Musical Instruments - WebQuest & Presentation Project

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the history of musical instruments, as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Then, students research their choice of one instrument and create a presentation or a video about it using their choice of Web 2.0 tools such as Adobe Creative Express (formerly Adobe Spark), eMaze, Canva, etc. (all are free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. A full list of software/technology options is listed in the student lesson instructions and includes links to tutorials. For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses.
This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topic and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well. This lesson could be used in a music, drama, history or technology class and is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!
