Make learning Russian fun with this simple, comprehensible input Russian lesson plan and story. This lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and makes sure that your Russian lesson is truly comprehensible input.

There is a monster under the bed! That is scary for any kid, but how does the monster feel about having a little girl on top of the bed? There are three targeted vocabulary structures that are used multiple times throughout the story. The targeted structures are:

под кроватью - under the bed
напуган(а) - scared
закричал(a) - cried out

This very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. The video is just over 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.

This Lesson Plan is based on the YouTube video "How to Have a British Christmas" by Anglophenia. The video describes all the unique and sometimes weird Christmas traditions that can be found in the UK. It also compares them with their equivalent ones in the US. From explosives at the dinner table to burning letters to Santa, it looks at 10 ways Christmas differs in Britain.

The level is Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate. The video duration is 4:52 minutes. The total lesson duration is 90 minutes.
The lesson aims to:

1. To familiarize students with British Christmas traditions.
2. To compare cultural practices in the UK and the US.
3. To practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

Each stage of the lesson is assigned a specific time frame. The written activities for the students are provided in a separate photocopiable sheet. The answers to the activities are included as well at the end of the lesson.

Don’t you want your students to have the opportunity to see baby chickens and ducks hatch? It is hard to incubate eggs in the classroom. It is messy, it can be distracting for the kids, and once the birds hatch you have to figure out what to do with them! 2 French Children's Story Videos (Petit Poulet and L'Oiseau et la baleine) from The French Experiment are linked.

For your beginner Core French class, I recommend having students watch one of the videos in French first with no subtitles. Have them try to answer as many questions as possible from the accompanying worksheet. You might want to play the video at .75x speed if you teach elementary students.

Next, play the video once more, this time with subtitles. Students will be able to fill in the blanks they missed the first time around.

The last question for each of the stories allow students to think critically about the lesson each story teaches.

The worksheets are in English. The videos are in French.

I found this allows students to think about what they are watching more carefully, learning more French words along the way.

An answer key is not included, but the questions are very simple and you will be able to answer them easily after watching the video. I wrote the answers while watching the videos along with the students.

Make learning German fun with this simple, comprehensible input German lesson plan and story. This lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and makes sure that your German lesson is truly comprehensible input.

There is a monster under the bed! That is scary for any kid, but how does the monster feel about having a little girl on top of the bed? In this story, your students will find out how it feels from the monster’s side of things. There are three targeted vocabulary structures that are used multiple times throughout the story. The targeted structures are:

• Ich habe Angst - I am afraid

• unter dem Bett - under the bed

• Da ist - there is

This very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. The video is just over 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.
