Adapted Reading & Writing Assessment Pre-Primer - Third Grade

This product can be used with students as an informal/formal adapted assessment. Students will be required to identify the pre-primer, primer, 1st grade,2nd grade, and/or 3rd grade Dolch sight words. If students begin at the pre-primer level and are able to identify a specific amount of each section of sight words, they are going to be ranked as independent, instructional, or frustration when identifying those sight words. Students are then provided with a sentence or brief comprehension passage for each Dolch sight word list. The questions and short passages have been adapted and shortened compared to other reading assessments so baseline data can be collected, especially with those students are struggling. This will help gauge where students need the most support in terms of identifying sight words, reading simple sentences/passages, and answering comprehension questions that relate with what is read.

This set of books includes 5 Adaptive Books focusing on color identification. All books have a choice of 8 manipulative pieces. However, differentiation is easy, as you will provide fewer options if needed. The books include colorful grasshoppers, turtles, heroes, & Fish. These books require some prep work; however, once they are laminated & velcroed, they provide extended and repeated practice.
Books 1 & 2: Colorful Grasshoppers & Where is Grasshopper helps students identify colors and place colored grasshoppers in specific locations (under, on, behind, beside, and between).
Book 3: Friendly Fish provides students with visual prompting to support matching colors. Students will match the Fish to the correct color.
Book 4: Hero Friends utilizes repetitive text "We need a hero wearing _____." Students will select the correct superhero on each page.
Book 5: A slow turtle allows students to place the correct color turtle by the water. Students can also practice letter formation by tracing words within this book.

Farm Animals Adapted Books (Interactive identify sounds, I see, positional)

Do your students love farm animals? They will love these adaptive books featuring 8 different farm animals.
Book 1: Students will select the correct animal and place them in the correct place using positional words (in front, on, beside etc.). This book uses the most color to make the positional placement of the animals more exciting.
Book 2: Read to your students making animal noises! What animal says "oink, oink", or "cluck, cluck". Students will use the interactive pieces to select the correct anima.
Book 3: I see a " farm animal". Students will see the animal and match using the interactive pieces.
Boom Cards! It is free to set up a boom account & your students will love them. I find them rewarding and enjoyed even by my most reluctant learners. I am including 2 Boom cards (I see & animal noises).

In this hands on, multisensory activity, students won’t even realize they are learning! In this resource, they will learn letter formation by first building the letter with counting snap cubes, coloring the letter, tracing the letter, and finally, writing the letter.
Building letters with blocks is not only a fun and engaging way to learn letter formation, but students are working on foundational fine motor skills needed for writing. Students don’t have to use a pencil for writing, try broken crayons (broken crayons help promote tripod grasp pattern), q-tip painting, or fingerpaint. When writing letters for this activity, students use handwriting letter boxes to help with letter size, placement, and spacing. Colorful Christmas Adapted Books (gingerbread, lights, presents & mittens)

Have fun learning and identifying colors with these interactive adapted books. The set includes 4 books that each have 8 movable icons. Student will match and identify colors using a Christmas theme: mittens, presents, lights and gingerbread houses. These books are easily modified by providing students with less choices.
These books require some prep work; however, once made, you can use them year after year! They utilize limited color ink for easy printing. Need ideas for storage? The adapted books are easily stored in a crate with hanging files.
Book 1: Colorful Mittens - Students will identify the color mittens and match to a colorful character (santa, elves, gingerbread men).
Book 2: Colorful Lights - Help decorate for Christmas by finding the correct color of lights.
Book 3: Colorful Gingerbread Houses - Match the correct gingerbread homes.
Book 4: This book can be used to assess if your students are able to identify their colors. A tree is placed on each page, with written instructions "put the blue present under the tree".

In this hands on, multisensory activity, students won’t even realize they are learning! In these resources, they will learn letter formation by first building the letter or numbers with doh or putty, tracing the letter, and then writing the letter.
Building letters and numbers with putty and dough is not only a fun and engaging way to learn letter and number formation, but students are working on foundational fine motor skills needed for writing. Students don’t have to use a pencil for writing, try broken crayons (broken crayons help promote tripod grasp pattern), q-tip painting, or fingerpaint. When writing letters and numbers for this activity, students use handwriting letter boxes with starting point to help with letter and number size, placement, and spacing. In the Reading Street program, the trickster tale text, The Horned Toad Prince, by Jackie Mims Hopkins is read. In this packet, students can answer comprehension questions pertaining to the text as they read the book or after they read the text. They can complete these questions individually, in a small group, or with support. There are several pages of comprehension questions in this packet that differ from the questions asked in the teacher edition. The questions from the text are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. In the beginning of the packet, the selection vocabulary words are reviewed along with pictures. Students can then create a sentence using each selection vocabulary word. The question, "what is a trickster tale?" is answered.
