French Christmas Activity Pack-French Phonics Centres-Xmas Phonics GAMES-Noel

By La trousse de Madame

Fun and engaging activity sheets to reinforce and explore French Phonics sounds in the Kindergarten to Grade 3 French Immersion classroom. Students will love the intriguing graphics and have fun finding the target sounds, searching for Xmas vocabulary, and building encoding and decoding skills with each activity. This activity aligns with the Science of Reading and blends well with all French programs across Canada and around the globe where French is being taught. Perfectly suits Son-au-graphe, Bien Lire, Aimer Lire, CBE French program, and Pratique Phonémique (all resources currently being used in Canadian French Immersion schools). Explore beginning phonics concepts with your students as they engage in fun and exciting Holiday themed activities.

How to prepare this resource:

Prep for this activity DOES INCLUDE A TINY BIT OF YOUR TIME:

French Christmas Activity Pack for the classroom

This resources comprises a variety of fun and exciting Halloween activities that can help to support a Science of Reading based program in your French classroom. My students squealed with delight this week as I started to unveil the Christmas themed learning centres to go along with my phonics programming. Students knew that as soon as we were done with explicit instruction ‘Let the games begin’ and begin they did.

Students remained on task, dedicated to their own activity, and were cooperating and collaborating with their partners while speaking and learning French decoding, Christmas vocabulary, and having a ton of fun!

Activities include:

1. Roll, read, cover: students roll the die, count the numbers, read down the row, and place a counter on the bottom word. The students who finishes the row gets a point

2. Word Hunt: find the words hidden in the picture. Fun Christmas themed images with hidden sounds and words. Students use a magnifying glass to find the words

3. Close sentences: fill in the blanks using the Christmas words

4. Highlighter activity pages: copy and place pages into clear folders and watch students as they hunt for the sounds. Count them up and record their answer in the square

5. Pyramid reading cards: students practice reading fluency and proficiency with fun Christmas themed sentences. These make a great activity for sending home for student homework around the holiday season.

6. Write the room: find the hidden flashcards and write in the word for each on your master list. Students LOVE this activity!!

Detailed instructions for each activity are set out at the top of each activity and could not be easier.

There is a little cutting and laminating involved with some activities but many use clear folders to make your job easier!

Perfect for a sub binder, emergency plans, or as a back up activity when you happen to have a few minutes to spare. A great set to have on hand as an extra centre activity at Halloween time. Your K-3 Immersion students will love them!

When to use this resource in the classroom:

These activity sheets are Christmas themed and can be used for the entire month of October and even into the week following Xmas. Students love using them and they can be helpful for follow-up assessment. Just in time for progress reporting period!

I hope your students enjoy learning their vowel sounds and exploring phonemic awareness with a Holiday Theme!

Appropriate audience:

I use these activities in my French Immersion classroom with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. I feel confident that they could be used for any grade from Kindergarten to Grade three.

Students must analyze the words, compare their initial letters, and determine their correct placement in the alphabetical sequence. This cognitive engagement deepens understanding and promotes stronger memory connections with the vocabulary terms.
  7. Short Answer: Provide an opportunity for students to apply the vocabulary in meaningful ways. By constructing responses, students connect the vocabulary to specific contexts, demonstrating their understanding of how the words are used. This application helps with recall and enhances their ability to use it effectively.
  8. Creative Writing: Students draw from previous language knowledge to create complete sentences relevant to the new vocabulary. This is a slightly more advanced activity that allows students to use higher-level thinking and creativity to form sentences using verb tenses and additional they are familiar with.
  9. Vocabulary Maze: Students encounter visuals that require them to choose the correct translations to proceed through the maze. This repeated exposure to new vocabulary promotes active learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, making the acquisition of new words more effective and memorable.
  10. Word Jumble: Challenge your students' word recognition skills with an exciting word jumble activity. They'll create their own jumbles to reveal names of Spanish clothing vocabulary.
  11. Crossword Puzzle: When students create a crossword puzzle, they actively engage with the vocabulary words. They must think about the meanings of the words, consider their spelling, and create clues that correspond to each word. This active involvement promotes deeper processing and understanding of the vocabulary.
  12. Word Search: Let your students become puzzle masters! They'll create their very own crossword puzzles using new vocabulary. This activity enhances spelling, vocabulary recognition, and problem-solving skills.
  13. Matching: Learners to make connections between words and their translations. By actively associating and pairing words together, learners establish meaningful connections that enhance their understanding and retention of vocabulary.
  14. Categorizing: Engage your students in critical thinking as they categorize their new vocabulary This activity encourages them to analyze and sort words according to different genres.

And more!

French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Bundle-Bundle La conscience phonémique

By La trousse de Madame

French Science of Reading STARTER KIT Activity Bundle is a combination of Science of Reading aligned activities that I have created, designed, and classroom tested to bring you the best of what's in store. Do you get tired of looking for French Immersion resources only to find that there is too much or not enough?

I have bundled 7 fantastic resources that can help set you up for group work, paper packets, and centre activities so you can quickly get your students started. And the best part? You can start any time in the school year!

What's in the Bundle?

1. Decodable Sentence Strips that are ideal for hands-on learning. Students use the resource in clear folders and write out the phonemes, decode, and write out the sentences all on their own

2. French Phoneme Activity pads are sheets to print out, insert into clear pockets (or laminate) and students form blended sounds using CV sounds available on the side. Students start with /a/ and blend each consonant by saying the sound, tapping the sound, mapping the sound, and writing the sound. Excellent early practice for those just getting started with the Science of Reading

3. French Phonics Alphabet activity sheets are designed to get that each sound of the alphabet familiarized and into the daily lexicon of each student. This can be used as a whole group instruction activity prior to being given out. The students could each get a booklet for doing each sound as the year progresses, for morning work packets, or this could be used for extension activities for early finishers.

4. Decodable Texts are the first set of texts that focus on early sound patterns for those setting out to learn the phonemes in French. A great way to start out for K-2 Immersion students that are just getting used to French sounds. These texts include a target sound, a few heart words, a small text, and comprehension questions.

5. French Phonics Screener is my most downloaded item in my store and this full version will take you from Kindergarten all the way to the Grade 2 level in French Immersion as it includes complex sounds, complex vowels, and all the blended sounds as well. A comprehensive screening tool that take a few minutes per students so you know right at the beginning of the year, where you need to focus your lesson planning!

6. Pyramid Reading Cards 1 are a set of early reading sounds that will get your students excited and motivated to embark on the world of reading. Each card has one repeating sentence that students get to practice from top to bottom. My students love to do these cards in pairs as they sit elbow to elbow, knee to knee to read to a buddy.

7. Large Phonics Flash Cards are a MUST in the Science of Reading classroom. Once your students are able to distinguish sounds, they are asking to put the grapheme to the phoneme! So here you go. Large print. Easy font. Easy print. The letters are positioned for easy stacking so you can hang on a ring and flip pages quickly. Students LOVE to be the Mini-prof when it's their turn to try to stump their classmates. Once you have the single sounds down, it's time to blend. Printing on different coloured paper and laminated will help cards to last year after year!

I would love to know how you are using this product in your classroom. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have anything to say about this resource. I love helping teachers as much as I can. A product review also is a great way of letting me know, and leaving a review earns you extra credit for more amazing TeachShare products!
