Halloween Bundle

What's Included

  • Pre-Filled Roll a Monster Story Board
  • Editable Roll a Monster Story Board
  • Story Planning Board
  • Vocabulary Page
  • Writing Pages
  • Editable Rubric in Google Sheets

Directions

Step 1: Roll the Dice

Begin by rolling the dice to determine the key components of your story. Use the chart below to match each dice roll to the corresponding element for your story. Record your results:

  1. Monster Type (e.g., Alien, Ghost, Dragon, etc.)
  2. Monster Appearance (e.g., Glowing red eyes, Slimy, Multiple heads, etc.)
  3. Monster Power (e.g., Telepathy, Fire-breathing, etc.)
  4. Monster Weakness (e.g., Bright light, Water, etc.)
  5. Story Setting (e.g., Haunted mansion, Spaceship, Ancient cave, etc.)
  6. Plot Twist (e.g., The monster is friendly, The monster needs help, etc.)

After rolling, students will have a list of elements to include in their story.

Step 2: Plan The Story

Now that students have their monster’s characteristics, setting, and plot twist, they will take a moment to brainstorm how these elements will work together in your narrative. Students should think about:

  • How does the setting affect the story's tone or mood?
  • What motivates your monster? What challenges will the monster face?
  • How can the plot twist surprise or change the direction of the story?

Create a brief outline, if needed, to help organize your ideas.

Step 3: Write The Story

Using the elements from their dice rolls, students begin writing their story. They should make sure their narrative has a clear beginning, middle, and end. As they write, students will focus on the following:

  • Incorporate all of the rolled elements into the story in a meaningful way. For example, if your monster has a weakness to water, this should play an important role in the plot.
  • Use vivid descriptions to bring your monster, setting, and events to life.
  • Develop your characters (including the monster!) by giving them motivations and emotions that will drive the story.
  • Remember the plot twist—use it to surprise your reader and add depth to your story.

ESL speaking and writing prompt activity question cards - How do you..

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

60 ESL Speaking or writing question cards - How do you..?

This set of intermediate ESL conversation prompt cards will have your students talking to each other in English. These 60 question cards are terrific for discussion and also journal writing prompts. Each and every card is unique and makes your students think about how to do things in detail in English. Some are more advanced than others. Since there are so many of them you can easily print them, cut them out, and then sort them into stacks of different levels of difficulty for years and years of no-prep activities.

These speaking and writing prompt cards are meant for SECONDARY education and will not necessarily be a good fit for primary. The cards are in English only.

This activity is perfect for small groups or as a whole class activity. Use these cards as a review and vocabulary builder An easy to project PDF with only one card per page is included in case you want to work on the questions as a class without printing and cutting out the cards. Encourage your students to give a thorough complete answer and use the question as a basis for discussion. If the Question is "How do you build a snowman"? Then there should be a discussion not a one line answer "with snow.." These questions are great for essay writing as well!

ex: " I love building snowmen! In fact, I wish it would snow more often, so I could make one more often! When it snows a lot, at least two inches or more, I put on my winter clothes and my gloves and head to the park. There I starting by...." and so on. It's a really fun activity.

Just click here to follow my store!

Click here for more resources in English.

Included:

60 question cards

Easy to project PDF file (one card per page)

PDF files to cut out cards in color or grayscale

There are many ways you can use this set of 60 speaking cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity or ice breaker with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out their answers including reasons for their preferences.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions.

➤ You can also use it as a writing exercise!

Deaf Education: Writing a Story about Hearing Loss/Deafness

By Sign with me TOD

In this product, the differences and similarities between writing a realistic fiction story and a nonfiction story are shared so students can decide how they want to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. They can write a realistic fiction story if they want to write about events that did not happen, but could have, or they could write a nonfiction story about their own personal experiences. Students will then pick which genre they want to use to write their story about hearing loss or deafness. Students can follow the example provided that goes through the writing process which shows the following: picking a genre, coming up with two possible story ideas their story could be about, deciding on one of the story ideas, adding more details onto their story idea, writing a rough draft, editing, and writing a final draft if required.
