ESL Emergency Vocabulary Words Workbook for Newcomers

In this product, students will learn the English vocabulary words for the different emergency items presented. Students will initially write each vocabulary word in their native language and after learning the English word, students will complete different emergency items vocabulary review where they will be required to fill in the English and their native language word for different emergency vocabulary words. I tend to use that section as a quiz. I will read the word aloud and the students will then write the English word and the word in their native language. Pictures are included for each vocabulary word to help students make connections with each emergency word. Students can do this independently or with help. Students will be required to answer a few comprehension questions that relate with the importance of safety skills, what to do if they are in an emergency, who to call in an emergency, and complete an emergency vocabulary review.

- Comma Drama: In the first task, students must identify comma rules used in 6 quotes about grammar. When matched correctly on a mat puzzle, shaded boxes reveal the first code.
- Idiomadness: In the second task, students must complete a crossword puzzle for which each clue is an education idiom. Shaded boxes within the puzzle reveal the code.
- Devil Cat: In the third task, students must closely read a passage about the Devil Cat that allegedly roams the basement of the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. and find the incorrect homophones within the article. Shaded letters within the answers form the third code.
- R U Kidding Me?: In the fourth task, students read 8 funny (well, in a Dad joke kind of way) jokes about grammar. Students must determine the part of speech of the underlined word in each joke. Shaded boxes within the answers reveal the code.
- Jig Saw Quote: In the final task, students must assemble a jig saw puzzle that forms a quote about grammar. Once the puzzle is assembled and students bring the quote to you, they obtain the missing comma to save Grandpa!

Deaf Education - Writing Characters, Setting, and Plot Ideas

As our students are completing written assignments, sometimes coming up with characters, a setting, and a plot is difficult. With this product students are provided with a lengthy list of female names, male names, and gender neutral names to choose from, possible setting ideas that also include words that focus on the time of day, time of year, days of the week, and months. This packet also provided plot ideas for a variety of writing assignments such as story ideas about life, science fiction, adventure, mystery, fantasy, funny stories, friendship, superhero, family, and animal story ideas. Students do not have to use the examples provided or even the characters names, but it does provide them with a boost of confidence to pick their own topic.

ESL Lunch and Dinner Vocabulary Workbook for Newcomers

In this product, students will learn the English vocabulary word for the different lunch and dinner food items presented. Students will initially write each vocabulary word in their native language and after learning the English word, students will complete different lunch and dinner food items vocabulary review where they will be required to fill in the English and their native language word for different lunch and dinner food items vocabulary word. I tend to use that section as a quiz. I will read the word aloud and the students will then write the English word and the word in their native language. Pictures are included for each vocabulary word to help students make connections with each lunch and dinner food item. Students can do this independently or with help. Students will be required to answer a few comprehension questions that relate with what is ordered when they go out to eat for lunch or dinner and what their favorite lunch or dinner food is.

March Basketball ELA Escape Room

If you are looking for the perfect way to celebrate the March college basketball tournament with a rigorous yet engaging, skills-based activity, look no further than this March Basketball Escape Room for ELA!
There is no wonder why escape rooms are so popular; they are highly engaging and encourage people to work together and think creatively in order to solve different puzzles... all while trying to beat the clock! This meticulously-crafted resource features all of the materials you need to conduct a full-length ELA Escape Room to celebrate March basketball. Planning an escape room may seem like quite the daunting task, but this product provides everything from the basics and set-up instructions to signs and answer keys so that yours runs smoothly from start to finish. The activity involves movement, energy, creative thinking and most of all, collaboration. Your students will be having so much fun that they won’t even realize the higher order thinking skills they are applying in the playing of this game!
How does it work?
Your students must learn to collaborate with their peers to escape your classroom by solving 5 different Language Arts skills-based puzzles about the big tournament.
- March Basketball Fun Facts: In the first task, students will read fun facts about the tournament. In each passage is an incorrectly used homophone. Students must identify and correct the homophone. Shaded boxes in the correct answers will reveal their code.
- Bball Quotes: In the second task, students will read 8 inspirational quotes from famous basketball players and identify parts of speech within the quotes. Once assembled correctly on a chart, shaded boxes will reveal the code.
- Catch: In the third task, students must perform a close reading of the poem, Catch by Samiya Bashir and answer multiple choice questions about the selection that when correct, will reveal the code.
- History of the Madness: In the fourth task, students will read about the origins of the basketball tournament. Within each paragraph, there is one commonly misspelled word. Students must identify the word and write it correctly on their answer sheet. Shaded letters within the correct answers will form their third code.
- Bball Trivia: In the final task, students will be quizzed on what they learned throughout the first four tasks and enter their answers to trivia questions in a fun crossword puzzle. Circled boxes within the puzzle will reveal their final code.

**Please note that although this activity is informative about the Christian holiday, it is a secular lesson and can be used for students of all backgrounds and religions. Students do not need any prior knowledge about Christmas in order to complete this lesson and have fun with it!**
How does it work?
Your students are stuck in your classroom and cannot leave for Christmas vacation until they solve 5 challenging grammar-based tasks about Christmas!
- Santa! I Know Him!: In the first task, students must identify the parts of the speech of words in facts about the origins of Santa Claus.
- Bah Humbug!: In the second task, students must identify homophones within a passage from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.
- Belsnickel: In the third task, students must identify commonly misspelled words within a passage about Belsnickel, a character from German folklore that visits children around Christmas.
- 12 Days of Christmas: In the fourth task, students must the verb tense of verbs inspired by the 12 days of Christmas.
- Word Search: In the final task, students must complete the word search containing the names of Santa’s nine reindeer. Once they have found all of the words, the remaining letters spell out a question that they must answer to escape the room.
