This lesson provides a framework (including a step-by-step break down) for decision making. A pivotal part of the framework is applying values to help you decide on the best choice for you. Values are explored, promoting self-awareness, and incorporated into decision making skills. The lesson also differentiates between consequential and inconsequential decisions to encourage thinking about what choices require more thought and energy.

As middle and high schoolers are headed toward bigger, more consequential decisions this lesson enables them to identify their values and emphasizes the role knowing your values plays in making choices that align with the life students want and the people students want to be.

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

▶️ Variation #1:

⭐ Part 1: The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

⭐ Part 2: The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

▶️ Variation #2: This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

There is ONE Empathy Self-Assessment included in this resource. Students will assess their empathy and understanding of others' feelings and perspectives using the statements provided. They will rate each statement with a score: 2 for "Always," 1 for "Sometimes," and 0 for "Never." Lastly, they will use the rubric to self-assess and rate themselves on the empathy-related behaviors or thoughts. Students will add up their scores to determine their level of empathy skills.

These assessment statements can also serve as a means to explore students' competencies and viewpoints regarding the topic!

ANTICIPATION GUIDES

There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:

▶️ Variation #1:

⭐ Part 1: The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.

⭐ Part 2: The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.

▶️ Variation #2: This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.

SELF-ASSESSMENT

This resource includes a single Gratitude Self-Assessment. Students will use the organizational skills - related statements to reflect on their outlook and appreciation for the people, experiences, and things in their lives.They will score the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Regularly,” 1 for “Occasionally,” and 0 for “Never.” They will use this self-assessment as a tool to understand their current level of gratitude and identify ways to bring more positivity and appreciation into their daily lives.

This assessment also serves as a valuable tool for initiating conversations about the importance of gratitude, fostering a positive mindset, and recognizing how appreciation can impact relationships, personal growth, and emotional well-being. By discussing their reflections, students can explore how practicing gratitude can enhance resilience, improve focus on positive aspects of life, and create stronger connections with others.
