My Bucket of Worries Worksheet

By SEN Resource Source

Worksheet in which children should think about what the worries are in their life and the ways in which they can relieve those worries.

Why do you need this?

The worksheet provides a structured opportunity for children to identify and articulate their worries. By acknowledging their concerns, children can begin to develop strategies for managing and coping with their emotions, ultimately promoting emotional regulation.

Thinking about ways to relieve worries empowers children to develop coping strategies that work for them. Whether it's deep breathing, talking to a trusted adult, or engaging in a favorite activity, children learn to identify and utilize effective coping mechanisms when faced with challenges.

How and when might you use this?

This worksheet can be used in a variety of ways:

· During morning work to begin the day with a discussion about worries and coping strategies.

· During small group discussions for children to explore different ways to relieve worries.

· During mindfulness practices to promote stress reduction.

· During counselling sessions about anxiety and stress management.

Eco-Map SEL Activity

By Erin Cusumano

An eco-map is often used an assessment tool in clinical mental health settings, but can be a beneficial SEL activity for social awareness. This exercise can be modified for small children all the way through adults.

The graph asks the participant to picture their social life as an ecosystem where they are at the center. In the blank space around them they can write in all of their formal and informal social ties and resources they have. (For younger children I suggest offering the option to draw the people in their life!) For further reflection, the participant can then add a + to signify if the person/resource is a positive part of their life, a - to signify if the person/resource is a negative part of their life, or write +- to signify a give and take relationship.

I use this worksheet along with social awareness lessons to encourage students to think about who they can ask for help from, who they have as supports, or reflect on relationships. It also allows you to gain insight into your students' life and resources outside of the classroom.

Glimmers Bulletin Board, Activities & powerpoint to Help kids find their joy!

By Until the Pieces Fit

Glimmers, which are the opposite of triggers are those moments of pure joy and serenity that light up their lives. I use the materials to share and practice glimmers with my students & after just 3 days back the kids have already started using the term "glimmer" when something brings them joy!

The word Glimmers originates from Deb Dana, LCSW, psychotherapist, and author who coined the term. Glimmers which is the opposite of a trigger are those fleeting instances that bring us warmth and peace, offering a profound positive impact on our mental health. With gratitude & written permission from Deb Dana, I'm thrilled to share these activities with fellow educators!

Materials Included:

PowerPoint: Utilize the included PowerPoint slide show to introduce the concept of Glimmers to your students. With 40 slides featuring real-life pictures, students can begin to recognize things that bring them Glimmers. It also helps create connection and shared interests, with their classmates.

Worksheets:

8 student pages

  • identify your glimmers (things that make me happy, included, helpful etc)

  • I feel a glimmer when....

  • track your glimmers

  • Things I see, taste and hear that bring me glimmers

Bulletin Board: Colorful lettering (multiple styles) to make a bulletin board for your classroom or your school. Cards are included for students (& staff) to share the things that bring them glimmers

2 pages of "me and my Glimmer". Take a picture of your students happy with their glimmers & attach to the page. A great reminder of the things that bring us joy.

8x11 Posters: Sprinkle your class or school with five 8x11 posters. Whether it's in your classroom, hallway, or on your door, these posters serve as tangible reminders to celebrate life's Glimmers.

Exploration Beyond: Curious to learn more? Dive into the enlightening USA Today article on Glimmers and their mental health benefits: Link to USA Today Article. You can also explore more about Deb Dana and her insights on regulation at Deb Dana's Website.
