Duolingo French Podcast activities Episode 84: Visite du Marais

These Activities to accompany French Duolingo Podcast Episode 84: Visite du Marais4 will help your students with their listening comprehension skills while also entertaining them. This set of activities it meant to accompany episode 84, which is the story of a man who dreams of becoming a fashion designer while working to reduce waste and protect the planet.

Each podcast is in both English and French - so even novice-high students can enjoy the stories. The podcasts are approximately 24 minutes long and are available for free on the Duolingo podcast site. This set of activities it meant to accompany episode 84, which is about a man who lives in the Marais district of Paris and loves the architecture and history of the area.

The activities include both pre- and post-listening activities. To prepare your students to listen to the podcast, you will find:

  • vocabulary list
  • vocabulary matching activity
  • links to vocabulary set on Gimkit, Blooket and Quizlet so students can practice
  • a crossword puzzle to practice the vocabulary

During the podcast, students can take notes on the sheet provided in the activity if you wish them to do so.

After listening, students can do the comprehension questions. There is a set of 10 questions, in both English and French to check for understanding. There is also a page with 10 true and false questions and 10 fill in the blank questions.

If you would like the students to read the complete transcript of the podcast, you will find it on the Duolingo Podcast site. Please note that I am not affiliated with Duolingo and these activities do not contain the transcript or podcast - but they do contain the link to the site where you can legally find both.

Make learning French fun with this simple, comprehensible input French lesson plan and story. This lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and makes sure that your French lesson is truly comprehensible input.

Joe is a potato, and he's lonely. He's got a plan to find a girlfriend - but will it backfire? There are four targeted vocabulary structures that are used multiple times throughout the story. The targeted structures are:

  • seul

  • il s'est habillé

  • pensait

  • était

This very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. The video is just over 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.

The French causative faire construction can be a hard concept for students to understand, and it can be difficult to find enough different ways to practice. This is a complete lesson plan that you can use with your upper levels to have them learn, practice, and master this skill that is really much different in French than in English. This lesson focuses on using the faire causatif in the present, passé composé, and futur proche tenses, and even with pronouns. This is a comprehensive lesson on the French relative pronoun DONT for upper-intermediate students. This lesson is meant to accompany my 24 minute grammar video lesson on YouTube in which I give the rules and show plenty of examples to explain how this pronoun is used in context. You can skip the video lesson if you wish and directly distribute the lesson guide as you teach DONT on your own.

Bon Appétit - Comprehensible Input unit 7 for beginning French CI

Are you wanting to use French comprehensible input in your classes, but:

  • You are required to use a district textbook?
  • You need a little bit of structure as you get your feet wet with comprehensible input?
  • You are required to give a district final, but want to use CI to teach your classes?

If so, this comprehensible input unit for French is for you!

This unit is the perfect complement to a district curriculum or textbook - it covers some of the typical vocabulary and grammar taught in the second semester of French 1, but with a more communicative approach.  Work through the unit with circling and repetition and at the end of each unit, your students will be amazed at how much they can do with the language!

A complete unit that can be used in the first year of French. It builds on the vocabulary from the Bonjour, J'aime, le Lycée, On va sortir and La Famille and Les Achats units. Includes lesson plans for 11 days, talking about food and cooking in French.

French verbs like OUVRIR - Lesson and exercises in 3 tenses

This is a comprehensive French lesson which includes 3 worksheets in 3 tenses. Students learn how to use the irregular -IR verbs ouvrir, offrir, souffrir, découvrir, and couvrir in the present, passé composé, and imperative tenses. This ready-to-go lesson would be perfect to use as a substitute lesson plan.

This resource is included in my French Verbs Like Ouvrir Bundle.

Before beginning this lesson, students should be familiar with using the passé composé with avoir as helping verb, and with using the imperative with -ER verbs since these irregular verbs follow the same pattern.

Step 1: Download, print, and distribute the 12 page lesson guide. There's plenty of space for students to take notes and write examples as you teach or play my video lesson.

Step 2: Show my video lesson on irregular French verbs like ouvrir, offrir, souffrir, couvrir, and découvrir. Since you will likely want to teach these verbs using your own methods, this video lesson is a bonus that is also available on YouTube.
