CVC word and picture matching jigsaws

By SEN Resource Source

Jigsaws showing CVC word pictures with words to match.

Why do you need this?

Matching pictures with corresponding CVC words helps students develop word recognition skills. By associating the visual image with the written word, students strengthen their ability to identify and read CVC words independently.

Jigsaw activities provide a hands-on and interactive approach to learning CVC words. Students manipulate puzzle pieces, which enhances their fine motor skills while actively engaging with the material.

How and when might you use this?

This activity could be used in a variety of way:

· Literacy centers

· Small group instruction to provide targeted support

· Independent work stations

· Early morning work

· Homework for additional practice

· Assessment

For continued use I would recommend laminating this resource and using Velcro to move the jigsaw pieces around.

Outer Space Roll a Story

By Creative Soul Printables

Launch creativity into orbit with Outer Space Roll a Story! This imaginative writing activity takes students on an out-of-this-world storytelling adventure with space-themed characters, problems, and settings.

Contents:
With Outer Space Roll a Story, students use a dice to randomly select the characters, story problems, and settings for their space-themed story. This activity includes:

  • 6 Characters: Students might encounter astronauts, aliens, space pirates, and more!
  • 6 Problems: Will they face an alien invasion, get lost in space, or tackle another cosmic dilemma?
  • 6 Settings: From spaceships to distant alien planets, each roll opens up a new backdrop for their intergalactic tales.
  • Lined Story Paper Options: After rolling, students can organize and expand their ideas on lined paper, outlining and then drafting their unique space adventure.

How It Works:
Students will roll a dice three times—once for each story element—to build a completely randomized story prompt. With character, problem, and setting in hand, they move on to the included lined paper to outline and write their stories. This process sparks creativity while reinforcing story structure in a fun, hands-on way.

Why You’ll Love This Product:
Outer Space Roll a Story adds an exciting twist to creative writing! Students love the randomness of each roll, and teachers will appreciate how this activity promotes imagination, vocabulary building, and structured writing practice. It’s perfect for independent writing time, literacy centers, or a fun end-of-the-week activity.

Features:

  • 6 space-themed characters, problems, and settings for endless story combinations
  • Dice-based prompts that take the guesswork out of planning and keep students engaged
  • Outer space-themed lined paper for easy story organization
  • 8.5x11 pages for easy printing and classroom use

How This Product Can Be Used in the Classroom or Other Educational Settings:

  1. Writing center activity: A perfect addition to writing centers, where students can independently create new stories.
  2. Storytelling practice: Use as a storytelling prompt in small groups, encouraging students to share their tales.
  3. Vocabulary building: Space-themed characters, problems, and settings offer fun new words for young learners.
  4. Creative time: A great option for free-write sessions, early finisher activities, or end-of-week creative writing time.
  5. Themed writing week: Incorporate this into a space-themed week to connect to lessons on the solar system or science fiction.
