In this engaging and interactive activity, students can work in pairs or independently to read 18 short Author's Purpose descriptions (or texts) and determine the author's intended purpose for writing each one. Students will decide whether the examples reflect the purpose to Persuade, Inform, Entertain, or Describe. They will then cut out Author’s Purpose Word Flip Cards and glue them onto the text boxes that best match the author’s purpose for each piece of text.
This resource also includes two rubrics for scoring the Author’s Purpose Flip Card Charts! One rubric is designed for use when assigning the activity as a pair task, and the other is for independent work.
