Identifying Patterns in Data Hands-on Activity
By Colleen Burdette
Hands on crosscutting concept of patterns:
Before our study of electromagnetic waves, I use this activity to remind students how to find patterns where there are not obvious repeating patterns. This skills is important across all levels of science.
Students are given three sets of items which they then observe. Through observation, students will classify their data. Once this data is classified with a chart students will evaluate patterns through the data.
A quick full class activity is completed before beginning this group activity. This models for the students the approach to finding and evaluating these patterns.
This activity aligns with Indiana Science Standard MS-PS4-1, CC.1.

Introduce your students to the thrilling no prep Soils, Rocks and Landforms Scavenger Hunt! This engaging and interactive activity puts students in the shoes of a geologist mining in a city in Arkansas that is rumored to be full of rare gems that would make the finder rich!
Each student, or group of students, will receive 10 reading task cards related to soil, weathering (chemical and physical), erosion, deposition, fossils, types of landforms and how they are created. The task is not only to read the cards but to solve 10 questions—the catch is that the answer to each question is found on a different card, encouraging students to read all the information thoroughly.
How It Works:

What Makes This Activity Perfect for Your Classroom:
Ideal for Different Learning Styles
Whether done individually or in groups, this scavenger hunt provides the perfect opportunity for students to collaborate and share ideas as they solve the puzzles. If students are working independently, it gives them a chance to practice self-paced learning while still engaging with the science background on soils, rocks and landforms.

Parts of the Human Skin 3D Diorama Science Project Pop Up Craft Activity
By That One Cheerful Classroom
Make reviewing the parts of the skin fun with this engaging hands-on 3D diorama science craft project! Students learn about the skin layers and then decorate a shoe box based on what they learned! Students are responsible for decorating the box and putting a creative scene inside that represents the parts of human skin. Students love it when they get to do projects and make their learning come to life!
Here’s what you’ll get:
What is a diorama?
A diorama is a three-dimensional scene built to illustrate a topic. Dioramas are small scenes created with layers of materials. A diorama can be made out of a shoe box or similar box that includes a variety of information and pictures about a topic.
Students create a diorama by cutting, coloring, painting, and gluing pieces inside the box to create a model that shows a situation, such as a historical event or animals in their natural environment. Students can be encouraged to add real features such as grass, sand, sticks, etc.
The dioramas do not come with specific assembly instructions. Students should learn about the parts of the skin first, and use the pieces within this resource to creatively build their own unique diorama! This is a fun way for students to learn and get hands-on with the lesson/topic.
Prep is quick and easy... print the pieces on cardstock for durability and let your students explore the water as an enrichment activity to your lesson plan.
TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID…
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Madeline L. says, "Great resource to use when teaching young learners about the skin layers and their functions and components."
