Editable Student Name Tags

I have been using these name badges in my classroom for the past 3 years. I love the feedback I get from Substitute Teachers when they tell me how much they appreciate having students names at the ready. Personalised Name Tags for each student makes for clear communication. Classroom management goes so much more smoothly when everyone knows each other's names.

And we all know, a happy Sub will keep coming back! And in these crazy times, that means everything!

Who can use these name tags:

Teachers of any grade from K-6 can definitely benefit from having these names at the ready. New teachers learning student names at Back To School time. Teachers on long term contract may want these handy name tags when they know they will only be around a few weeks.

I keep a note in my Substitute Emergency plans to let them know where to find the Clip-on Tags in my room.

Where to keep them:

I keep mine attached to student cubby bins so that they know where to find their stuff at the beginning of the year when we are just getting accustomed to the new classroom.

They are so proud the first time they put them on! They feel so 'professional'!

How to use the name tags:

-Open the file

-Fill in Teacher name and room number on the first slide

-Immediately click on the slide, right click, and duplicate slide so you have enough cards for your number of students

-Now fill in student names, copy, cut, and laminate

-using a hole punch make two holes just below the top line side by side

-slip through a snap clip so students can clip the tags to their clothes

In this Mini Socratic Seminar students will have Socratic dialogue in small groups in order to discuss and plan for a social contract. By the end of this lesson your students will have a deep understanding of what it means to have a cooperative and inclusive environment for learning!

Preparation:

• Share the essential question with students
• Provide time for all students to record the essential question and their personal thoughts/questions.
• Share the opening question which has no single “right” answer, is framed to generate dialogue leading to greater understanding of the ideas.
• The teacher may share all possible discussion questions with students before the seminar or the teacher may share only one question at a time.

Seminar:

• Students are placed in small groups or virtual break out rooms of 5-6 students.
• Teacher poses the essential question.
• Students respond to the question through writing their own questions using Costas.
• Teacher chooses a Socratic Seminar leader for each group.
• The leader facilitates the seminar discussion by guiding group members to a deeper and clarified consideration of the ideas, a respect for varying points of view, and adherence to and respect for the seminar process.
• Students may pose new questions when the discussion is exhausted. New questions posed must relate to students’ ideas and contributions in response to the initial essential question.
• Students write a list of classroom norms with their group.

Need an awesome Movement Activity? I have just the thing for you! This creative Conscious Discipline “Breathing Pose” resource was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. It is best to use one of these images per day or per week, so these resources can last a while. Focus on the specific animal shown and discuss where this animal would be and how it would breathe and pose to gain focus. Make sure you demonstrate the pose with your class. Ask a student to help demonstrate this pose, and the sillier you are, yet focused, the more the students will want to participate with you in each of these fun and motivating animal breathing poses. Your students already love them, and cootie catchers are the perfect ice breaker activity for back to school.
