The perfect writing assignment for the month of December or any month of the year! This holiday informational/explanatory writing assignment gives students the opportunity to learn about different holidays around the world. Students will be assigned or choose a holiday to research and then write their own informative essay. There are two pages giving different holidays to research, but you can also write your own holidays in if you would like. Students can use the graphic organizer to help organize their ideas before writing their explanatory essay. A Diwali Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work; a great holiday activity; team-building activities; or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Diwali and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important holidays or festivals celebrated in the United States and around the world. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

This lesson focuses on the innovations and inventions that are borne from tragedy, specifically as it relates to 9/11. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson for Patriot Day, September 11th.

Students work in pairs or small groups to create a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint (or Google Slides) about some of the things that were invented because of the disaster that occurred on 9/11 after researching them. They use the information gained from their research to create a finished presentation that explains a few of the inventions inspired by that disaster and add their own opinions and insights to it.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Writing a story about a haunted house can be a fun and interesting project for your students especially around Halloween. This product provides students with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their story about a haunted house and share it with their peers! Students can also write their story with a peer which encourages students to communicate and work with one another.

This product includes information to share with your students about what a story is, why we write a story, who is your audience when writing a story, what is your purpose when writing a story, how will the story about a haunted house be published, and rules to follow when writing a story about a haunted house.

An example of a story about a haunted house is included in this product. After the example is read, students will be provided with a template that includes an area for 3 haunted house story ideas, and once they choose which story about a haunted house they will write about, they can add onto their story using the idea chart.

Following the example, templates are provided rough draft template, 1 template that allows for students to write down three story ideas that include what happened in the story, who are the characters, and how does the story end. One the 2nd template, students can write down three brief summaries about haunted house story ideas. On the 3rd template, students can write down two brief summaries about haunted house story ideas if the template that includes 3 story ideas is too overwhelming for students. Students will then have a rough draft template that can be filled in. This includes the title of their haunted house story, the characters, the setting, and the plot. Students can then use the rough draft template to write their rough draft. Once students have edited their rough draft, they can use the final draft template that is included or they can type it. A reminder checklist is provided after the rough draft and final draft to remind students to reread their work to check for any mistakes.
