What Students Will Be Doing:

This is a 3-part assignment that incorporates both individual and group assignments. Groups of students (4-6) are responsible for writing an individual monologue, a group script and a final monologue reflection. Students will take on the role of a character from a well known fairy tale. In the individual monologue, students will get to explore the perspective of their character and how the new dilemma a character is faced with should be solved. The group will then figure out a solution to the dilemma and will write a short script to show their resolution. After the group has resolved the dilemma, each character will have an opportunity to reflect on how their character feels about the outcome. Don't worry I've included some rubrics that you can use for each section too and some worksheets to help guide student thinking.

This is an integrated project that focuses on the Persuade portion of Author's Purpose. I integrated this project with my science unit (Human Impacts on the earth) and my social studies unit (How people can help our planet). Students were tasked with creating an ad to persuade their audience to help with a world problem (Deforestation, Pollution, etc).

All of the graphic organizers we used, PowerPoints with ads and videos of world problems, and the checklist for the ad is included in this product. The students get to explore ads already created and review them. Then they research some of the world problems. After this they are placed in groups and then using a random wheel, are given a world problem. They then identify the impacts of the problem and come up with some solutions. Then they begin to plan their ad and once approved by their teacher, they began creating their ad!

In my classroom, my students wanted to try and create commercials. So we used the Canva app (usually free for educators) and the students worked together to create their commercials.

An Amelia Earhart Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new topic, Women's History Month, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Amelia Earhart and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about the 1900s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the invention of language as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. This rubric looks at 5 different areas when students are being assessed on writing a research report. The areas that are reviewed on the rubric are as follows: Choosing someone to write about, grammar/punctuation/spelling, final draft includes details of person's life, staying on task, and sharing the biography with peers. This rubric scores writing a biography out of 10 possible points. The rating scale use is a 2, 1, & 0.

This creative writing assignment should accompany Ellen Raskin's book The Westing Game. With this assignment, students will stop reading at the beginning of chapter 24 and finish the story on their own. Directions, writing requirements, a focus on dialogue, and a rubric are all included in this resource. There is a colored version for posting online and a black and white version for printing.

Guided Nutcracker Descriptive Essay ($5 Value)

This guided descriptive essay asks students to describe a nutcracker. There are three separate options to use based on the level and ability of your students.

Option 1: A full five-paragraph essay with three body paragraphs and an introduction and conclusion are required. This includes a planning page, a student requirement page, and a rubric.

Written Research Report (with introduction and conclusion). An optional presentation extension is available for students to create a project based on architecture, dress, or food research done on their report.
