A Leonardo da Vinci Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new art topic, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills, in Art or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Leonardo da Vinci and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 task cards about famous artists before putting them in order from the earliest born to the most recently born. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

In this lesson, students learn fun facts about Andy Warhol and his art as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. Then, they use that knowledge to create an art project of their own, using Warhol’s style, in Microsoft Paint, 3D Paint, or one of these free Web 2.0 tools: SketchPad (https://sketch.io/sketchpad/) or SumoPaint (https://www.sumopaint.com/home/#app) that do not require download. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included are tutorial links to assist students with the software for the art project. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.

Alaska Research Project

Scrappy Patchwork Quilts

A scrappy quilt uses a variety of different fabrics that may or may not use a consistent theme. In this new version of cut and paste, students will make a scrappy quilt using a variety of pattern blocks included in the activity. The students must complete a set of questions or activities to know what numbered pattern to use and where it should be placed on their quilt. Each quilt has its own color scheme (color chart) and those are the colors students will need to create a one-of-a-kind scrappy quilt. Each quilt comes with a header, and some have additional activities students must complete to finish their quilts. Each quilt once assembled with header is 11x14 inches (does not include the size if a quilt has an additional activity).

This plaster project has everything to start a successful year in the classroom - high student engagement, multiple project variations to finish plaster colors wheels with different media, worksheets for off-task or disruptive students, plus step-by-step instructions with photos - to guarantee an excellent outcome for your students, even if you have never used plaster before. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Vincent Van Gogh and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 task cards about famous artists before putting them in order from the earliest born to the most recently born. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included are tutorial links to assist students with the software for the art project. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.

Multiplication Two Digits

Scrappy Patchwork Quilts

A scrappy quilt uses a variety of different fabrics that may or may not use a consistent theme. In this new version of cut and paste, students will make a scrappy quilt using a variety of pattern blocks included in the activity. The students must complete a set of questions or activities to know what numbered pattern to use and where it should be placed on their quilt. Each quilt has its own color scheme (color chart) and those are the colors students will need to create a one-of-a-kind scrappy quilt. Each quilt comes with a header, and some have additional activities students must complete to finish their quilts. Each quilt once assembled with header is 11x14 inches (does not include the size if a quilt has an additional activity).

Students will construct a patchwork quilt after completing the multiplication worksheets (Multiply two digits by one digit)

This activity is a great way to connect art and math together.
