Celebrate Valentine's Day with this engaging communal story-telling activity!

This product features a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique Valentine's Day-inspired photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.

With this intrinsically engaging activity, each student has the chance to tap into their creativity while applying knowledge of the 7 steps of Freytag's Pyramid. It is a great activity to introduce or reinforce the plot diagram and is perfect for a Friday, a substitute plan, or simply for when students need a creative break without sacrificing learning and hard work. While ideal for Valentine's Day, it can be used at any time of the year!

Looking for a no prep and engaging Valentine's Day activity that also helps your students practice operations with integers? The "A Heart in Paris" Digital Escape Room will help your sixth graders practice this concept while having fun!

Based on the premise that a heart has lost its friend in Paris, your students will explore five different locations full of activities, and hidden messages. This fun geography skill activity is great for your students on Valentine's Day! We all know how students get excited on Valentine's Day! Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will also have the opportunity to practice reading absolute location —latitude and longitude — coordinate grid system. Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. This is an interactive partner or small group activity that will have students up and moving throughout the room in order to answer 15 questions about poetic devices in 15 different modern and classic LOVE POEMS!

The product contains 15 multiple questions that have 4 answer choices. You will hang these signs around your classroom. Based on their answer, the students will be directed to another question. If the students make a mistake, they have to retrace their footsteps and find the question(s) they answered incorrectly. Each group/ pair will start at a different question, and the kids will "follow the trail" of questions throughout your room.

Poetic devices and techniques that are analyzed in the questions include: tone, figurative language, diction, syntax, rhyme, characterization, gist, author's purpose, paradox, enjambment, repetition, and anaphora.
