Primary Source Analysis and DBQ's
This 29-page Primary Source Analysis with DBQ's resource with 20 primary sources plus three DBQ prompts gives students a chance to delve deeper into the challenges, obstacles and finally the success of the suffrage movement. The first page includes an Overview, Notes on Primary Sources and Definitions.
Here’s a chance for students to read documents that shed light on various opinions in favor and against suffrage, the differences of opinions within the movement as to strategy and how racial segregation played a role in the movement.
Assign just one, a few or all of the sources depending on time constraints and student interest.
Primary sources include letters, photos, reports and other documents. Each page of primary sources includes questions at the end in order for students to analyze perspectives, consider key ideas and identify bias.
Included is a one-page sheet that explains what primary sources are and how to analyze them using specific questions through a process called HAPPY. There is also a page at the end for students to apply the HAPPY process to one source.
Three DBQ prompts are included at the end with instructions on how to create a response to the prompt. An Answer Key to all the questions and the DBQ prompts are available at the end of the packet.
A separate PowerPoint presentation on How to Integrate Sources for a DBQ is included in the Zip file. There is also a YouTube video that provides narration for the slides. The link is included in the packet.
There is also an Easel Activity which allows students to answer the questions at the end of each primary source online. For homework purposes, Home Schoolers or for asynchronous learning, this is an especially valuable digital option .
Reading Assignment
This four-page Reading Assignment and Worksheet provides an overview of the various activities, attributes and activities of women involved in the women's suffrage movement. It covers the time period from the end of the Civil War in 1865 through the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920. Students can read this on their own as a homework assignment or it can be a group activity in a classroom. As a close reading activity, it is also ideally suited for home-schoolers or independent learners who want to learn more. A Worksheet with questions based on the reading is included, along with an Answer Key. This resource helps students with reading comprehension.

Power Point Presentation
This 20-slide PowerPoint presentation covers the suffrage movement in the United States from 1865-1920. It is an ideal lesson for the post-Civil War and/or Progressive Era eras or as a stand-alone resource for women’s history. It is also a good resource during Women’s History Month.
Each slide contains information and graphics that highlight how the women's suffrage movement developed over these years. It highlights the many obstacles they faced, the different organizations that were formed, strategies employed and how suffrage was eventually achieved. Key women are highlighted including the giants of the era such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Carrie Chapman Catt, Ida B. Wells, and Alice Paul.
A digital assessment in Easel is provided for teachers to measure student understanding, retention and analysis of the material.

Looking for a** Black History** Month or Women's History Month-themed, engaging and informative reading comprehension activity? This scavenger hunt is designed to help students practice skim reading, looking for context clues, and learn some useful vocabulary.
It’s perfect for EFL / ESL students at the B1/B2 level and can also be used for native English classes at grade levels 5 - 7. With low prep, just print and hang, it contains 10 reading passages about 10 Influential African American Women in History.
The scavenger hunt is designed so that students have to revisit and reread the reading passages multiple times when looking for code words. The answer to each question is located on a different reading passage card. Once students have answered all the questions, they unscramble the letters to reveal the final answer - the name of the murderer.

Rosa Parks | Figurative Language Short Passage Set | Women's History Month

This Figurative Language Short Passage Set about Rosa Parks is a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Use it during Women's History Month or any time of the year! Featuring Rosa Parks, this is a 216-word passage filled with 15 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! This figurative language passage set is rigorous, uses higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Simply print and go! There is truly no preparation needed, which is why this set is perfect to leave for sub plans, bell ringers, homework, test prep, review or assessment!
*As an optional review activity, use my No-prep Four Corners Figurative Language Activity resource for a fun whole-group game, then use this passage set for assessment!
Activity:
Students can complete all three worksheets as part of a packet, but I suggest using one each day. If you teach allusion, alliteration, idiom, or onomatopoeia, you can ask students to include those in Task 2 where they will be asked to continue the passage using a similar writing style. I have left some blanks on the checklist for this very purpose.
Reflection:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

This can help motivate your students to try their best to get the message right by plotting the ordered pairs correctly and accurately.

Looking for a** Women's History Month**-themed, engaging and informative reading comprehension activity? This scavenger hunt is designed to help students practice skim reading, looking for context clues, and learn some useful vocabulary.
It’s perfect for EFL / ESL students at the B1/B2 level and can also be used for native English classes at grade levels 5 - 7. With low prep, just print and hang, it contains 10 reading passages about 10 Influential Women in Science.
The scavenger hunt is designed so that students have to revisit and reread the reading passages multiple times when looking for code words. The answer to each question is located on a different reading passage card. Once students have answered all the questions, they unscramble the letters to reveal the final answer - the name of the murderer.

Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster Reading Comprehension Worksheet 1980s Eighties

This passage provides a detailed account of the Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster, which occurred on January 28, 1986.
The text describes the events leading up to the launch, the sudden breakup of the shuttle just 73 seconds after liftoff, and the tragic loss of all seven crew members on board.
The passage also highlights the causes of the disaster, including a faulty O-ring seal in one of the solid rocket boosters, and the subsequent investigations and changes made to the space program.
The text is written at a level appropriate for upper elementary or middle school students and includes important historical context and vocabulary related to space exploration.

This primary source worksheet features a passage written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton in Eighty Years and More in which explains why she and Lucretia Mott decided the time had come to organize the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 which ushered in the Women's Rights Movement in the United States. Students will enjoy learning about the motivations behind the creation of the convention. Two questions follow the Guided Reading.
On the second page, the passage is enhanced with Meanings and Definitions in order to facilitate and improve understanding. A Differentiated Learning Option is also available for students.
