This product has 3 parts. First, there is a hi-lighting activity that requires students to go back into an Argument Essay they've already written and color-code the different essential parts of their writing. You could post this assignment on Google classroom or project the directions onto the Smart Board. The second part is a checklist for Argument Writing. You will make a copy for each student. The students could use it themselves for self- assessment, OR they could switch and use it for peer feedback. Finally, there is a very helpful chart that includes transition words for Argument Writing, including power words, transition words, turnback words, and counter argument words. You can copy this for all students, hang it on the wall, project it on the Smart Board, or post it on Google classroom. My students keep this in their binders to refer to all year long.

• Helps students focus on their thoughts for planning, decision-making, and writing an essay

• Helps students see the connections, patterns, and relationships between facts, concepts, and ideas 

• Organizers provide a visual depiction for writers by showing them where each piece of the essay is placed within an essay

Persuasive essay maps are used as a visual aid to map out points and arguments for a persuasive essay or debate.

• 1st - determine your claim or thesis
• 2nd - identify three (3) reasons to support the claim or thesis
• 3rd - identify three (3) facts or examples to validate each reason

Writing a fable can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to use creativity while writing their fable and share it with their peers!

This product includes information to share with your students about what a fable is, why we write a fable, possible lessons that can be learned when writing a fable, who a fable is written for, possible options students can choose to publish their fable, rules to follow when writing a fable, using a strong opening compared to a weak opening in the first paragraph of your fable, tips that are useful to write a great fable, the layout of the fable is provided, an example of a fable is included in this product that includes an idea template, planning the fable with more in depth ideas, and an example of a fable rough draft is included in this product. After the example fable is read, students can answer 4 comprehension questions about the fable. Students will are also provided with a template that includes an area for 3 fable ideas, and once they choose their fable, they can add onto their fable using the idea chart. This resource should accompany Kwame Alexander's book The Door of No Return. This writing project asks students to conduct a small amount of research about the real Door of No Return. They will consider why the author may have chosen this title for his book, and they will think about how their reading experience may have been different if they had known about the door before reading.
