This is an engaging President's Day or world government activity on world leaders for geography, civic, and other social studies classrooms. This can be used as an introductory before or wrap-up lesson following a World Governments unit. Students will recognize world leaders and understand how they played an important part in government and managing their countries — in both positive and negative ways.

Students often can/will recite the basics of SOME of the Bill of Rights but often do not know how they apply to their personal life. They believe that it was written years ago and does not have any relevant meaning to the HERE and NOW. With this interactive activity, my US History and Government classes dived into the Bill of Rights and learned how to apply each of the Amendments to their personal life. This brought about outstanding debates in class (and online) about civil rights and liberties.

This was created as a PDF document to use in the classroom. There is also a Digital Learning Format where it can be assigned to students to complete in a virtual setting such as Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.

In a critical reading activity, students will explore and understand the historical background of how each Constitutional Right came to exist. The provided reading is an easy to read, attention-grabbing resource. The second part of this lesson involves having students delve deeper into their analysis by completing a graphic organizer in which students will:

1. Interpret each amendment.

2. Summarize the historical background of why/how each amendment came to exist.

3. Illustrate: Find an image/gif (or draw) that best depicts the meaning behind each of the 10 amendments. Be creative!!

SUPPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES:
