The lesson is a reading on the history and influences of representative government in the United States. Students will read the informational text and then answer the questions that follow.

Following World War I, Germany was in economic, political, and physical ruins. In 1933, Adolf Hitler became Chancellor and began his quiet quest against anyone who was not Arian. In 1931, Germany was given the option of hosting the 1936 Olympics. Hilter, under his Nazi German totalitarian dictatorship government system, wasn't sure it was a good idea until he was convinced that they could build the largest stadium to be seen at the Olympics and make Germany look as if it was not in ruin. He agreed! The 1936 Olympics were different from the Olympics in the past. It incorporated theatre, high-tech equipment for the games, and wonderful production with a lot of rituals that would continue into the Olympic games after Hitler's Olympics.

Hitler kept the secret of his war against the Jews throughout the two weeks of the 1936 Olympics using propaganda to show the world how well Germany was doing; the world, however, had no idea whatwas in store for Germany and the Jews who lived within its borders.

OBJECTIVES:

• Students will understand the concept of propaganda and how it was used during the Olympics in 1936 by the Nazi regime. (Bloom’s Taxonomy: Understand)

The first several pages present information about the purpose of voting and explain important developments in the history of voting. The middle pages teach students about the Electoral College and the election of a U.S. President, senators, representatives, judges, and local officials. Here are ten hot contentious topics that hav been prominent in the political discourse. These topics are highly dynamic, and the positions associated with each party can evolve over time, influenced by current events, leadership changes, and public opinion. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, after the American Civil War, the United States experienced a time of enormous industrial and urban growth. This growth gave Americans many opportunities but also led to overcrowding, poor working conditions, and inequalities. Progressives in the late 1800s and early 1900s fought to combat these challenges.

This lesson will have students explore & debate the five major compromises that were made at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787. The delegates were charged with the task of amending the Articles of Confederation. However, they quickly decided to replace the Articles and write a new constitution. Because the delegates came from all parts of the country, they differed on a number of key issues. In order to keep the convention going and ensure ratification of the Constitution, the delegates had to compromise a number of times. As a result, the final document is sometimes described as a "bundle" of compromises.
