I have transitioned from elementary school to middle school and am teaching drama. I felt this was a good class to try a fun, thoughtful 100th day activity.

Students will choose a person who could be a "character" either fictional or real. The person must be old (I said 80, but did lower the age to 75 for students who could make a good argument) but they do not have 100. I also allowed the students to choose someone who has passed away as long as they were old when they passed away. So, yes to Elaine Stritch, no to Marilyn Monroe.

Students will have a research worksheet to complete about this person which will help them give a presentation about this person. They may present as the person or present about the person.

Fairy Tale Scenarios

This is a 3 part individual/group assignment where groups (of 4-6) are given a problem based on a well known fairy tale where students have to write and perform their solution to the problem. Students will write out a monologue individually and as a group will write the body of the script. After the groups have resolved their problem, each group member will have a chance to reflect on how their character feels after the resolution of the problem. This activity would be appropriate for middle school students. This package will provide your students with hours of entertainment that include opportunities to write and showcase their creativity. Two resources perfect for students learning about A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare; a play script written for young performers and a close reading activity.

The play script has been rewritten to be suitable for young performers. A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of four Athenian lovers who have a complicated yet dramatic love life. Lysander and Hermia loved each other and wished to be together. Helena loved Demetrius, but Demetrius loved Hermia, and Hermia’s father wanted him to marry his daughter.

Hermia and Lysander decided to run off together into the woods. But the woods were haunted by the Fairy King and Queen - Oberon and Titania, and the King’s mischievous henchman, Puck. The play tells the magical story of the eventual coming together of the four lovers, and Duke Theseus and his bride, Hippolyta.

The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. There are 26 speaking parts. I hope you enjoy it – good luck! There are 26 speaking roles with parts for the whole class; the language is a mix of Shakespearean and more modern English. Ideal for theatre performances or plays, reading activities or guided reading sessions.

The second activity is a close reading passage about the play. The activity comes with an informational text, comprehension and grammar questions, an extension task, crossword and wordsearch activity.

The activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of the document.

Time allowance for the close reading activity
5 minutes - read through the text individually.
40 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
15 minutes - Teacher and students go through the text and answers

Teach your students about conflict management through this engaging Passive, Assertive, or Aggressive AVID improv game. Directions:

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the modern Broadway composer, Cole Porter and his work, as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Then, students research their choice of one of his famous musicals and create a presentation or a video about it using their choice of Web 2.0 tools such as Prezi, Adobe Spark, eMaze, Canva, etc. (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. Romeo and Juliet is a play created by Shakespeare. It is a tragic romantic story where the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, are supposed to be fierce opponents but ultimately fall in love. Due to the ongoing conflict between their families, they cannot be with each other, resulting in their decision to end their lives as they cannot bear the agony of being apart. Romeo and Juliet is a heartbreaking drama written by Shakespeare.

Unquestionably, the primary and most important theme of the play is love. They will have a chance to discuss their opinions in small groups and as part of a full class discussion. The full-length lesson plan can literally be used any day of the school year and is sure to spark thoughtful discussion among your students.

⭐Collaborative Writing Activity

"Collaborative Story Time" is a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique evocative photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.

As a video production teacher, one of the most important parts of my class is to make sure that my students can write a script. Whether it’s the script for the daily news show or the script for a short film, the process is still the same...it’s basic writing. I take a week at the beginning of the semester to talk about script writing in general. Here are those plans.

Day 1 ~ Introduce the idea of movie scripts. Read some movie scripts. Links included to three movies.

Day 2 ~ Brainstorm your script. Work out details on Location.

Day 3 ~ Character Development
