French Comprehensible Input Lessons Short Story Bundle #3
By Frenchified
Make learning French fun with these simple, comprehensible input French lesson plans and stories. Each lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and make sure that your French lesson is truly comprehensible input.
Each story and lesson has a set of target structures that are used again and again in the story. The target structures for the lessons are:
La pomme de terre seule: seul, il s’est habillé, pensait, était
Le Président Américain: rend visite, mieux que, veut changer, la Maison-Blanche
Le Monstres Sous le Lit: sous le lit, j’ai peur, il y a, sur le lit
Tu conduis mal!: a faim, il n’y a aque, il cherche, une baguette
Each very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. Each video is around 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.
Here’s what you’ll get in these Italian Comprehensible Input Lessons:
• Links to the videos both with and without the text
• A printable pdf version of the stories
• Comprehension question worksheets
• "Who said it?" worksheets
• Story retell worksheets
• Answer keys

French Spiral Circling Review Activities BUNDLE
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
French Spiral Circling Review Activities BUNDLE
These particular activities are different than many French TPRS circling activities because they don't necessarily tell a story. Read on to see how you can easily differentiate this activity by using video, audio, and practice cards. Each resource has a video preview in the individual descriptions. Check them out to see how these activities work!
Research reveals that language learners need MANY repetitions of grammatical structures in order to truly acquire them. By using the circling method, familiarity with the word or phrase is done through repetitive questions circling around the target language.
Included in French 1 level:
French 1 examples:
Included in French 2 level:
French 2 examples:
Step 1: Watch the video lesson / activity to learn about the circling method. Students will quickly catch on, and will truly need to concentrate so that they can make the necessary changes in their sentences. Do your students ever tell you that they can understand what's being said, but can't think fast enough to make the necessary changes when responding? That's exactly why you should have them try out circling!
Step 2: Once they've watched the video and have done the exercise while reading along, try out the audio only version! This will be a challenge as they will not be able to see the words, and it will help with listening and speaking skills.
Step 3: Use the set of cards to practice reading and writing. Read the cards that I have spoken in steps 1 and 2, and have students take the time to write their responses before looking at the answer cards. As the cards are not numbered, I encourage you to download them and use them online rather than printing.

French Dictée Activities Beginners Listening Comprehension Dictation BUNDLE 2
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Are you looking for French dictée - dictation exercises for your beginner level students? Do you struggle to find themed dictées that match beginner level French grammar? Dictées are great activities for building listening comprehension and writing skills.
My dictation exercises are unique because I've included both video and audio versions. Check out the preview to see all of the grammar that is covered in each of the ten dictées included in this bundle. Here is the Set 1 Bundle.
Each of the 10 dictées in this bundle include the following resources:
➯ Video presentation of the dictée. Watch me and listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. Many non-natives find it makes the listening comprehension part of dictation exercises more manageable to see the speaker's mouth. Once I've finished reading the dictation, I will present each written sentence in French along with the English translation. Once we've gone through all of the sentences and students have checked their work, I will present the complete text in paragraph form on the screen. At that time, we can slowly read through the complete text together so they can see how the separate sentences actually form a short story. Please note that the preview highlights both SET 1 and SET 2.
➯ Audio presentation of the dictée. Listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. This version of the exercise will be more challenging as students will not see the speaker's mouth.
➯ PDF of the numbered sentences in the dictée and the English translation.
➯ Numbered student response sheet. This is located on page 2 of the PDF.
➯ Here are the themes included in this bundle:
➯ The following dictées are included in Bundled Set 1:
"Dictation is the transcription of spoken text: one person who is "dictating" speaks and another who is "taking dictation" writes down the words as they are spoken. Among speakers of several languages, dictation is used as a test of language skill, similar to spelling bees in the English-speaking world."

French Comprehensible Input Story - Le Mauvais Espion
By Frenchified
Are you looking to improve student comprehension and proficiency in French? This French comprehensible input short story is a fun sample of what can be done with French CI instruction. It is a sampler from the series of French CI units, available for level 1 and level 2 French.
This short story is for French learners who are just starting their studies. Very simple language with lots of repetition - but the story itself is interesting enough to hold their attention. It is the unit story that finishes unit 1 of the CI unit series - each unit uses comprehensible input to give your students a base of frequently used vocabulary words with some basic structures. At the end of the unit, students should be able to easily read and understand the story - and with practice, they can retell the story as well.
These units are especially helpful if you want to use CI but:
The units are complete units with vocabulary and grammar in context - they cover the same material as the standard textbook programs, only with a more comprehensible input focus.
This free story can be used as a standalone activity as early as the first semester of French.
Includes:
This story is part of the Bonjour! Comprehensible input unit 1 for beginning French. This will give you an idea of what the units are like - each unit builds up to a unit story based on the vocabulary and grammar of the unit.

French Comprehensible Input Lesson Plan Le Monstre Sous le Lit
By Frenchified
There is a monster under the bed! That is scary for any kid, but how does the monster feel about having a little girl on top of the bed? Find out in this Comprehensible Input video lesson for French learners.
This item includes a story with targeted vocabulary structures that are used multiple times throughout the story. The structures are:
sous le lit - under the bed
j’ai peur - I’m scared
il y a - there is/there are
sur le lit - on the bed
This very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. The video is just over 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells.
To accompany the video and printed story, there are several activity pages - a comprehension worksheets, a "who said it?" worksheet, and a story retell page. Answer key included.
To sum it up, the item includes:
✓ one mp4 file of the story with text
✓ one mp4 file of the story without text
✓ link to videos online so your students can rewatch on their own
✓ printable pdf story
✓ comprehension question worksheet
✓ "who said it?" worksheet
✓ story retell worksheet
✓ answer key
With many people doing distance learning these days, you might wonder if it is possible to use this story in this way. The answer is YES! Here are some suggestions on how you can make this work:
- Use the pdf of the story as reading practice. You might have students read it before or after you use the video.
- Use Zoom meeting (or whatever software of your choice) to tell the story with the video. Share your screen with the mp4 file. There is no sound for the video, this is done purposely so that you can use the story for storyasking. Tell the story a little at a time, pausing the video frequently to ask questions. This will help you to circle the vocabulary and structures. Add details! If the sentence says "there is a monster under the bed" - ask questions such as "is there a monster or a dog? Is the monster under or on the bed? What kind of a monster is it - big or little? Scary or nice? What is his name? Is there a monster under your bed? What kind of a monster is under YOUR bed?"
- Once you have done the storyasking part of the task, now it is time for the students to do the comprehension and retell. These are pdf files that you can send to the students. You can also share the link to the page with the mp4 stories, so the students can watch the video on their own - with or without the text - and practice retelling.
- Finally, you can have students do the retell. This can be done through Zoom, or you could have them use Flipgrid to record.
