World Geography: Three Gorges Dam Triumphs and Tragedy + PowerPoint

Have your student explore the largest hydroelectric power dam in the world located in China!
Students will explore the positives and negatives of solutions to China's environmental issues. Your student will be engaged and intrigued by the details surrounding the Three Gorges Dam through this motivating Asia geography mini-lesson. This lesson teaches beyond the facts about the Three Gorges Dam and will encourage higher-level thinking, along with teamwork to lead students to understand the triumphs (benefits) & tragedies (costs) of China's Three Gorges Dam.
China's government believed it would solve many of its pollution, flooding, trading, transportation, and energy problems, but over time, China's government realized it also led to tragedy for many Chinese citizens. This lesson will make a great impact and help your students explore the geographical, economic, and social aspects of Chinese culture surrounding the Three Gorges Dam.

A Fun Semi-Silent Carousel Activity & PowerPoints to Engage Your Students!
Studying presidents and world leaders throughout the world is important because it allows us to understand the impact individuals can have on society and history. By examining the decisions and actions of past and current leaders, we can learn valuable lessons about leadership through this semi-silent carousel activity.
This is an engaging President's Day or world government activity on world leaders for geography, civic, and other social studies classrooms. Students get involved in the learning process and will learn about 15 presidents & leaders (past & present) around the world to understand the place. This can be used as an introductory before or wrap-up lesson following a World Governments unit. Students will recognize world leaders and understand how they played an important part in government and managing their countries — in both positive and negative ways.
(This lesson is easily modified for time restraints. Simply, choose fewer leaders to cover or remove one of the games. Can be modified for middle school and high school geography and history classrooms.)

Similar to world government systems, superheroes have limited and unlimited powers. What if your government had a superhero? What would he/she look like? Would they use their powers for good or for evil?
For secondary, middle school, and high school students.
Through this secondary geography concepts lesson on government types, students will participate in a World Government PowerPoint presentation and listening guide. Students will be assigned a type of world government and will analyze its strengths, weaknesses, and their assigned government's character. Students will work cooperatively to create a superhero to represent their world government type. Students will have a deeper grasp of types of government and how they function.

I designed this 5-page activity for my students to engage with during the Fall or at the start of the year, focusing on the Social Studies Citizenship unit. Students will read various scenarios and determine whether each one exemplifies good citizenship. This activity is perfect for reinforcing rules and character traits at the beginning of the year. I intend to use it as an independent task after a few days of instruction on citizenship. It can also serve as a graded assessment, quiz, or a follow-up activity after a mini-lesson on rules or citizenship.
