The first lesson involves students retrieving facts from informational texts about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, and writing these onto the included fact sheet. My students LOVE creating storyboards and they are a wonderful introduction to basic story elements and summarizing. I use colorful file folders or large manila/construction paper. There are illustrations to color and places to list the characters, setting and summary. There are also interactive flaps for writing the beginning, middle and ending. This project is about the birth of Baby Jesus and includes Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, the Wise Men, a shepherd and a sheep.

Franklin Roosevelt Biography Writing Unit | 3rd Grade & 4th Grade

A biography project about the life of Franklin Roosevelt, who was the president during the Great Depression and most of World War II. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in third grade or fourth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.
