Adapted Books with a focus on "Wh" Questions: "What" and "Who" is a set of four books designed to help children learn and practice their comprehension skills. The set includes two books with a focus on "what" questions and two books with a focus on "who" questions.

Extend student practice through print and go worksheets, task cards, and a sorting activity.

Adaptive books are a valuable tool to use with students. While the books do require some prep work such as printing, laminating, cutting and velcro; they can be used again and again! They are highly motivational for even the most reluctant learners. Each book has 8 picture icons to choose from. You can easily adapt by sharing less options with your students.

What:

Book 1: What do you wear? is a fun and interactive way for children to learn about appropriate clothing choices for different weather conditions. It presents various scenarios and asks children to choose the correct clothing to wear for each situation. For example, "It is a sunny summer day and you want to go swimming". What will you wear? Clothing for all seasons is included.

Book 2: What are they doing? is designed to help children practice predicting and understanding cause and effect. It presents various situations and asks children to determine what the characters will do in each scenario. Children can reinforce their understanding by stating what they would do in each situation. "I will... Situations include: Cooking, painting, playing ball, crying, cleaning, eating, reading and sleeping.

What/Who:

Book 3 & 4: This book is available as either Who lives here or What animal lives here. They are a fun and engaging way for children to learn about different animals and their habitats. It presents different locations and asks children to choose the animal that lives in each place. Support is provided with a hint for each animal to help children who may not have prior knowledge of the animal's habitat or characteristics.

Example: Book 3 - Who lives inside a home? Book 4 - What animal lives inside a home? Hint: I am soft, cuddly and I meow. Animals include: starfish, bunny, skunk, penguin, fish, bear, whale and cat.

Book 5: So many jobs! Who will do them? is designed to help children learn about different occupations and the roles they play in society. It presents various jobs, including traditional careers such as teacher and firefighter, as well as more unusual careers such as rockstar. This book encourages children to think about what they might want to do when they grow up. Jobs include: teacher, farmer, ball player, firefighter, police, fisherman, cook & rockstar!

Book 6: Who will do it? This book presents a problem (I need or I like something), and a solution (who I can get this from). For example, I like cookies. Who will bake them? or I need groceries. Who will I pay?

Print and Go:

Continue practicing student understanding of "what" and "who" questions through 16 additional practice pages.

• 2 pages of sorting pictures into "who" and "what columns.
• 4 pages of identify and color pages.
• 10 pages of matching a picture to the "who" or "what" question. These will require a student to cut and paste.

Task Cards: All cards are colorful and made to be laminated and reused. I store mine in small containers (pictures in preview)

• Clip cards "what": Students will identify the correct picture from a choice of 4. Clip with a paperclip or laundry clip or laminate and circle with a dry erase marker.
• Clip cards "who": Students will identify the correct picture from a choice of 4. Clip with a paperclip or laundry clip or laminate and circle with a dry erase marker.
• What Color: Identify object and then identify the correct color.
• Where do they work - The base card contains a place of work (hospital, bakery etc.) Students will select the correct person who works there.
• Who and what questions - Students select the correct picture to answer the question.

Letter sound fluency is an important foundational skill for reading success. This low prep activity gives students a quick and engaging way to practice and improve their letter sound fluency.

The dinosaur and worm sets feature the letters a, b, c, f, i, m, n, p, s, and t and can be used to begin developing fluency before all letter sounds are introduced and mastered. Students point to one animal along the path at a time and say the letter sound.

Suggested Uses:

Texas Technology Standards | Printable Keyboards + Digital Activities: Students will learn where the letters, numbers and symbols are on a keyboard by practicing pointing on the printable keyboards and playing a stand up sit down game to recognize missing keys as an added challenge! *PowerPoint & Google Slides

Texas Technology Standards 6(F) demonstrate keyboarding techniques for operating the alphabetic, numeric, punctuation, and symbol keys appropriate for Kindergarten-Grade 2 learning

What's Included:

• 6 different keyboard in various colors including black & white

• 15 stand up sit down game slides for deciphering missing keys

"Put Your Finger On" Activity

• Print and laminate a keyboard for each student.
• Follow the teaching slides to allow students to practice pointing to the different keyboard elements on their own boards.
• Then, for a greater challenge, allow students to play the stand-up, sit down game while trying to guess the missing key.

Stand Up Sit Down Game (15 game slides)

• Display each keyboard with the missing key.
• Students either stand or sit for the correct key.
• Students can use their keyboards or try to guess without them for an extra challenge.
• Consider setting a short timer or giving points for even more of a challenge!

Beach Color by CVC Word puzzles covering short a, e, i, o, and u word families. Each color by word puzzle features 4 to 6 CVC words for a vowel family in two difficulty levels for 10 puzzles total. These fun beach and ocean themed puzzles include a swimsuit, flip flops, a coconut drink, a palm tree, and a sandcastle.

I've included both a picture clue set and a word clue set for each puzzle. In the picture clue set, students look at the picture of the word and then find the corresponding word to color. In the word clue set, students have the CVC word to look at and find the matching word to color in the puzzle. No prep! Just print and go.

Short e - wet, ten, pen, net

Short i - dig, bib, pit, fin

Short o - mop, top, fox, pod, hot, rot

Let's be honest, phonemic awareness can be SO boring for our students! Whenever we are working on it they want to use the words in sentences or want to see a picture of what that word means! Now they have a picture to connect to the word!

These cards are so much fun my students beg me to work with them! I let them choose their manipulative; whether it is play-dough to tap, legos, chips, or blocks! This also gives those kiddos struggling with blending and segmenting a concrete method to gain those skills!

The cards are broken into each digraph so that you can easily practice phonemic awareness with the digraph you are working on. You can also mix them up so they can practice the skill for each digraph!
