Based off the hit Windows 3.11 game we all knew and loved, Solfege Sweeper is a progressive game where one slip can end you up on the dreaded mine! This will have your kids reading and mastering solfege in NO TIME! Students will see a grid of 40 squares on the home page. Each square contains either a link to a solfege syllable.... or a mine :) I select one student at a time to pick a number. I'll then click on the number and it'll advance to the designated slide. If it's a solfege syllable, we add that solfege syllable to the Building Board on the home page. The teacher will click "Back to Game and Building Board" and put the solfege syllable they just received on the board. As for the solfege syllable they earned, you can cut out the included syllables (make a bunch of copies!), write them in dry erase, or have a student keep tabs on the side. Students will now sing the solfege syllables back in order. Then we repeat! See how it gets progressive? ;) AND what a great way to do a composition. Heck, you should get your piano involved too! ...until the mine! There are 5 mines in each game, and once the mine is hit, it's GAME OVER! At the end, you can tally up how many syllables the class amassed. Compete against other classes, or themselves! There are 5 files in the pack and each one is completely different (all the syllables are mixed up and of course, so are the mines) Syllables included are DO, MI, SOL, and LA. Spanish Teachers!  Do your Spanish students struggle to form, understand and answer questions?  This bundle of resources is a great way to do a mini unit on questions! A presentation, Task Cards and Writing Activities will ensure students practice all skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening).  

The Google Slides™ lesson with Pear Deck™ makes teaching students how to formulate and answer questions fun and engaging!   The slideshow shows students how questions can be worded in Spanish, both with and without interrogatives.  It gives them a hint for the AAPPL test for the Seal of Biliteracy regarding questions, and there are multiple places in the presentation where students can interact and respond.  This is great for keeping students engaged, but also lets the teacher know if students are understanding the presentation!

Included in this presentation about questions are 3 writing activities for your students to practice and apply what they’ve learned!  Students can do the activities alone or in groups, or one of each! The activity I use as a group task is differentiated for different skill levels!  

The Question Task Cards can be printed out or displayed digitally.  Each of the 20 cards asks students to create 5 questions related to a topic.  The topics are varied, and include themes that most Spanish students are familiar with: family, food, school, favorites, etc.  I like to use these as a warm-up for class.  And task cards can be used to ask students to write down their questions or to ask a partner! They’re so versatile and can be used over and over and in just about any level of Spanish! 

All of these materials can be easily edited to meet the theme of your unit or level of your students  if you want to change the vocabulary I use!

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS IN BASE TEN – These questions check students’ understanding of comparing decimals, adding and subtracting decimals, multiplying and dividing decimals, multiplication and division of whole numbers, and powers of ten.

NUMBERS AND OPERATIONS – FRACTIONS – This category includes questions on equivalent fractions, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions.

OPERATIONS AND ALGEBRAIC THINKING – The questions in this group require students to solve problems using the order of operations, determine how to rewrite an expression, write expressions in word form, and use ordered pairs to show possible answers to word problems.

MEASUREMENT AND DATA – These questions check student’s ability to find volume or rectangular prisms, use a line plot, convert measurements, and for the 500-point challenge question, find the volume of an irregular shape made up of two rectangular prisms.

GEOMETRY – This category includes questions requiring students to use the coordinate plane to find a point, find distance, and identify patterns. There are also questions allowing students to practice classifying polygons.

VOCABULARY – questions check students’ understanding of a difference, quadrilateral, ordered pairs, isosceles triangles, parallelograms, and rectangles.
