This is a short story for beginning Spanish students to review days of the week, fruits as well as to learn new target vocabulary: hay una gata, se llama, tiene hambre, no le gusta, come, pero, va, porque and está enferma.

I teach this story using TPRS.

Make learning Spanish fun with these simple, comprehensible input Spanish lesson plans and stories. Each lesson plan includes a story with targeted structures that can be repeated to give your students lots of repetitions. Comprehension activities to use after the story will allow you to engage your students and make sure that your Spanish lesson is truly comprehensible input.

Each story and lesson has a set of target structures that are used again and again in the story.  The target structures for the lessons are:

Conduces mal: conduce mal, yo no lo vi, en la acera, está enojado/a

El monstruo bajo la cama: tiene miedo, debajo de la cama, grita, las galletas

El Presidente Americano: la Casa Blanca, quiere cantar, mejor que, visita a

Each very simple story is told in two different ways. There is a printable text version, and an animated mp4 version. Tell the story as you watch it (pause if you want to stop and discuss or storyask!), or just watch it for comprehension. Each video is around 5 minutes long, with pause time for students to read the text. There is a second version of the video with only the illustrations - no text - so you can watch it and do story retells. With novice low and novice mid learners, you can tell the story as is. For novice high learners, you can add more details or write a parallel story. You could even use this story at higher levels by having students retell the story in the past.

The Snowball Game is an interactive activity instead of doing a worksheet. It is an engaging and fun way to practice the direct object pronouns. This is a great way to get students up and moving while learning harder concepts.

Students start with one sentence in Spanish that they rewrite on their answer key replacing the direct object with the direct object pronoun. The student then crumbles up his sentence (snowball) and tosses it to another student. The students try to rewrite as many sentences as possible with the direct object pronouns before the time is up.

Easy prep! Directions are included. Just print the student answer key and sentence "snowballs" and have fun!

Other reasons to play the snowball game to practice Direct Object Pronouns:

⭐️ You can quickly informally assess if the students are understanding by walking around and looking at their sentences.

Use this Spanish Christmas ornament writing activity to decorate your classroom tree and to get your Spanish students in the holiday spirit! Students will choose 1 of the 8 mandala ornaments to decorate or create their own with the blank version provided. Then they will practice their Spanish writing skills while writing about their greatest gift and responding to the prompt, "Mi mejor regalo es." Afterward, they can cut and glue that to their ornament and hang them on your class Christmas tree or bulletin board!

Directions:

Ready to start AP® Spanish Unit 6: Environmental, Political and Social Challenges? I am fortunate to have several textbook resources including Temas, AP Spanish Preparing for the Language and Culture Examination and Avance.   In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 2 out of 58+ activities. (They are grammar practices, but I provide the study guide and quiz, so you can easily make or find practices to go with these!)  However, especially after teaching on-line for a year, I have moved away from relying on textbooks and I create most of the activities myself. This makes these lesson plans very versatile and usable for anyone!  For teachers who need or like to teach digitally, all of the activities in this bundle can be assigned via Google Classroom or other learning management system. And almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suit your needs!

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s. 

I start the year with a set of lesson plans designed to last one week.  It is linked below.  We do all the paper-passing, signing up for different apps and classrooms, and become comfortable with the course and our classmates.  We also present our summer homework, also linked below.  Next I teach Unit 1: Families in Different Societies. This unit (Unit 6) starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already and logically follows units 1, 2, 3 and 4 and 5 where I present all the different tasks of the AP Spanish Exam.   The previous unit plans are also linked below.  AP® teachers are allowed to teach the units in any order they would like, but I recommend that if you plan to use this series of lesson plans, that you go in order. I choose to introduce the AP test open-ended tasks over time so that students are not overwhelmed.  By unit 3, they will have learned the purpose, rules and resources for all of the tasks and can spend the last 3 units practicing them some more. This last unit is designed to fit into the often chaotic end of the school year with its many interruptions.  

There is a place within the lesson plans where I encourage a break from the unit to review for the AP® Exam. I have a schedule for review that I use with my students which I will link below.  If you are using this unit at a different point in the year, you can go through the unit without pause!

This is a community building interpersonal speaking activity in which the students can get to know each other while reviewing the verb saber. This is an interactive activity for levels Spanish 2 or as a quick review for Spanish 3. This activity promotes positive communication among the students in the class.

Spanish writing prompts, especially when you make them into a group challenge, are a great way to get your Spanish 2, 3 or students writing, improving and learning from others!  

Your Spanish students will look forward to working together to create writing that meets and exceeds the standards you’re looking for!  Writing together allows peers to learn from each other and takes away some of the pressure when writing alone. The themes are relevant and interesting to students and promote creativity with language. 

All of these resources help give the teacher the resource of time!  The group challenges provide you the chance to offer specific feedback, but on just one paper per group instead of one for every student!  And peer editing is another way for students to receive feedback without the need for the teacher to correct everything.

This Spanish Version Bingo game is a great game to familiarize students with a variety of helpful and unhelpful coping skills. This is a great game for individual, small group or even whole class activities. This game is the perfect supplement to your SEL lessons.

This bingo game includes the following unhelpful and helpful coping skills:

Counting, have a drink, bounce on ball, happy thoughts, hug favourite toy, stress ball, go for a walk, play play-doh, read a book, talk to someone, write it down, refuse to work together, pushing others, giving up, bossing others around, not listening, kick things, kick someone, tantrum, destroy property, throw items, using swear words and telling lies.

HOW TO PLAY

The caller reads the bingo card, and the players identify whether they have that card on their BINGO mat. If they do, then they cross it off and the first to cross off all 16 coping skills on their unique mat first wins the game!

There are over 40 different Bingo mats for larger classes as well as colourful and engaging community helper cards.
