This is a 40-slide PowerPoint presentation which would be great as a starting point with a class about to embark on a study of Hamlet OR as a revision-aid once they have studied the play.

It includes questions and discussion points as well as a review quiz at the end.

The PowerPoint is constructed as follows:

• Firstly, it provides an overview of the play, discussing Hamlet’s quest to avenge his father’s murder while grappling with indecision, madness, and moral dilemmas.
• The historical context is explored, highlighting the political instability and religious conflict in early 17th century England, which is reflected in the play’s portrayal of a corrupt and troubled court. The example given is Mao Zedong's Resume'. Students will create an objective as to what job the character is applying. The character's education, work experience, etc. will be included. There are many ways you can use this set of 83 speaking cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity or ice breaker with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out their answers including reasons for their preferences.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer the question. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question.

In this product, students will learn the English vocabulary word and the sign for the 61 different present and past tense irregular verbs vocabulary words.

Students will learn the difference between the present and past tense irregular verbs and will see how they are used in sentences. Signs and pictures for each of the verbs are provided to help the students understand their meanings.

In the first section of this product, students will be provided with a present and past tense irregular verbs sign language dictionary that includes the present and past tense of the same verb on each page, a sentence using each present and past tense irregular verb, a picture that helps explain each sentence that is provided, and the sign for each verb.

In the second section of this product, students will be provided with a sentence, the present and past tense irregular verb on each page, the sign, and a picture describing each given sentence. Students will be required to fill in the missing verb that goes along with each sentence and picture provided.

In the third section of this product, students will use the sign and picture provided for each present and past tense irregular verb to make up a sentence.

This meticulously-crafted resource features all of the materials you need to conduct a full-length Escape Room for Macbeth by William Shakespeare. Planning an escape room may seem like quite the daunting task, but this product provides everything from the basics and set-up instructions to signs and answer keys so that yours runs smoothly from start to finish. The activity involves movement, energy, creative thinking and most of all, collaboration. Your students will be having so much fun that they won’t even realize the higher order thinking skills they are applying in the playing of this game!

How does it work?

Instead of coming into your room this morning, your students have entered Inverness, the castle of the new king, King Macbeth. Word has it that he has gone a little crazy lately and all of his ‘friends’ have been dropping like flies. Now he’s starting to look at your students a little funny too.... and in order to survive, they must flee from the castle as fast as they can! The only way to escape is by solving 5 different skills-based puzzles, discovering a hidden message, and finding clues along the way.

• In the first task, students must order the major plot points of Macbeth on Freytag's Pyramid. When ordered correctly, letters in the shaded boxes on the chart form their first code.
• In the second task, students must match each character from Macbeth with their description by drawing a line connecting them. Letters not intersected by these lines will form their second code word.
• In the third task, students must complete fill-in-the-blank sentences using vocabulary words from the play. The vocabulary cards, once assembled correctly, will reveal the third code.
• In the fourth task, students must complete a crossword puzzle about major plot points, characters, setting, and quotes from the play. Circled letters within the crossword, once unscrambled, reveal their fourth code.
• In the fifth and final task, students must solve the encrypted message (a notable quote from Macbeth) using clues from the first four tasks and answer the final question.

Summary:

Claude McKay, born Festus Claudius McKay in Sunny Ville, Jamaica in 1889, was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance, a prominent literary movement of the 1920s. His work ranged from vernacular verse celebrating peasant life in Jamaica to poems that protested racial and economic inequities. His philosophically ambitious fiction, including tales of Black life in both Jamaica and America, addresses instinctual/intellectual duality, which McKay found central to the Black individual’s efforts to cope in a racist society.
