These graphic organizers require students to analyze three images related to the Great Depression and Dust Bowl and draw evidence-based conclusions. The differentiated version graphic organizer includes scaffolding questions to help lower level students analyze the images and write about them. The graphic organizers also require students to cite evidence from the images to support their analysis/conclusions. The graphic organizers are visually appealing and eye catching!
These graphic organizers are excellent for Do Now, unit launch, groupwork, homework, independent work, and/or research activities. It’s perfect for EFL / ESL students at the B1/B2 level and can also be used for native English classes at grade levels 5th - 7th. With low prep, just print and hang, it contains 10 reading passages about Thanksgiving, its history and traditions.
The scavenger hunt is designed so that students have to revisit and reread the reading passages multiple times when looking for code words. The answer to each question is located on a different reading passage card. Once students have answered all the questions, they unscramble the letters to reveal the final answer - the name of the murderer.

The worksheets will challenge your students to dig beneath the surface of the text and generate profound interpretive insights!
What you'll get are 4 handouts focused on the colors that appear most frequently in Fitzgerald's novel: green, yellow, white, and blue. Begin this lesson by having your students to divide into small groups of 2-3 students. Invite each group to choose one of four colors. Then challenge each group to determine the symbolic significance of their color by analyzing a list of 6-8 quotations from The Great Gatsby. Finally, invite each group to present their findings to the class!
These color symbolism worksheets are designed to will help your students appreciate the dual symbolic meanings — or double-edged significance — of each color: for example, while green symbolizes hope and wonder, it also represents envy. An answer key for each color is included. But your students are likely to generate insights that go beyond mine!

Instruct your students to fold the paper in half the long way, and to cut along the black lines into the midline of the paper. They will end up with a long, skinny version of the poem on the front of the flaps, and analysis question inside.
As they read the poem, they will peel back the flap to reveal questions that ask them to analyze the poem for theme, mood, syntax, diction, characterization, symbolism, alliteration, rhythm, and rhyme.
