Stress Management + Coping Skills SEL Bundle

By Erin Cusumano

These two lessons naturally go hand in hand!

Stress management explores identifying stress as a process that takes place in the brain and body, identifying when stress can be helpful (eustress), when stress becomes overwhelming (distress), and emphasizes the use of coping skills to mitigate the negative effects of stress.

Coping skills explore multiple options for positive copings skills and encourages students to identify one that works for them. The lesson looks at positive vs. negative coping skills, problem-focused vs. emotion-focused coping skills, and how coping skills work to affect thoughts, feelings and actions.

Together these lesson explain the processes behind stress and how coping skills counteract when stress becomes overwhelming.

This build includes 2 presentations ( 7 slides in one, 8 slides in another), a stress management worksheet (1 page), a coping skills worksheet (1 Page) that can accompany a no-prep activity, and guides for both lessons.

Feeling Misunderstood Social Story and Role-Playing Scenarios

By Sign with me TOD

This product includes 1 social story that focuses on being misunderstood. Vocabulary that is reviewed and discussed in depth include misunderstood, communication, judge, feeling insecure, anxiety, depression, positive self-esteem, and negative self-esteem.

Students will learn about feeling misunderstood, how someone could feel misunderstood, what can cause someone to feel misunderstood, how someone feels when they have positive self-esteem, how someone feels when they have negative self-esteem, how to build self esteem, and if someone feels misunderstood how they would feel.

One social story that focuses on feeling misunderstood is included in this product. The social story includes comprehension questions throughout. Some of the questions require students to put their feet in the shoes of the characters. This product shares with students the importance of communicating how one feels when they feel misunderstood, listening to others, understanding others point of view or feelings, and discussing interests that are different amongst friends/family members.

At the end of the product, you will find 4 role-playing cards that relate with feeling misunderstood. Students can role-play each situation and talk about how they would feel if they were in the situation.

Fight, Flight, Freeze SEL Lesson Using "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros & TEST

By Ms. J's ELA

This social emotional learning lesson uses Sandra Cisneros's short story Eleven. During this SEL lesson, students read the short story, view a YouTube video, and reflect on their own stress responses. There are journal entries and opportunities for small and large group discussions as well.

This resource includes:

- links to all relevant materials

- an engaging Google Slides presentation to follow

- a lesson guide which lays out each step of the lesson along with timing

- a self-graded Google Form test

This resource could easily be used by a substitute.

This lesson has always been a favorite of my middle school students. The topic is enlightening for kids who have felt stress responses without understanding what is really happening in their brains and bodies (pretty much all kids). Eleven is a fantastic story to use when learning about stress response because readers are often frustrated by the way the main character responds to the stressor she faces. This is a great way to integrate SEL into an English class.

Impact of Your Words - Middle + High School SEL Activity and Interactive Lesson

By Jeni Donath

Creating a positive environment for students is a top priority, but it can be difficult when individuals lack an awareness of the impact of their words towards others, especially when it does not affect them in the same way. This activity brings awareness and a better understanding, while also increasing empathy and care toward others. I also like to remind students that we cannot control what other people chose to say and do, though we can take time to educate and create awareness, especially when something they are saying or doing is impacting us. This lesson can be customized to fit whatever statements would be most beneficial in recognizing within your school.

The Two Sides of the Coin: Navigating Good and Bad Peer Pressure Situations!

By Inspired By MlG

Is peer pressure pushing your students in the right direction, or leading them astray?

This interactive activity equips students (grades 6 - 12) to navigate the tricky world of peer pressure!

Here's what you get:

  • 39 engaging scenarios: Covering both positive and negative peer pressure situations (think: joining a study group vs. ditching class).
  • Good or bad? Analyze it! Students will dissect each scenario, explaining the pressure involved and its potential consequences.
  • Spark discussions, ignite learning: Perfect for individual reflection or lively group debates. ️
  • Benefits for students: Develop critical thinking, decision-making skills, and build confidence to say no. ✅
  • Teacher bonus! Create your own custom scenarios with the blank template to keep things fresh.

This activity is a goldmine for:

  • Health Class discussions on social influences and healthy choices.
  • Language Arts Class to analyze persuasive tactics and communication skills.
  • Character Development exercises across subjects.

Ready to empower your students to make wise choices?
