Will your Spanish students be taking the AAPPL test for the Seal of Biliteracy? This resource is a great way to practice the parts of the AAPPL Test to score an I-3! The Interpretive Reading, Presentational Writing and Interpersonal Speaking and Listening practices in this resource mimic what students will see on the AAPPL test.

French Passé Composé - Être and Avoir - Google Forms Quizzes or Exercises

This bundle of three Google forms quizzes using the passé composé with être and avoir is 30% off.

Each quiz includes the same 50 verbs:

Quiz 1: Students write the past participles of 50 regular and irregular verbs. This is not a conjugation quiz. Short answers require accent marks.

Quiz 2: Students choose which helping verb is needed to form the passé composé of 50 regular and irregular verbs, including some reflexives. Some of the verbs use être all of the time, some use avoir all of the time. However, a few of the verbs use either être or avoir depending on the context. No conjugation is required. Multiple choice options: être, avoir, sometimes être, sometimes avoir.

Quiz 3: Students conjugate in the passé composé choosing which helping verb is needed to form the passé composé of 50 regular and irregular verbs, including some reflexives. Some of the verbs use être all of the time, some use avoir all of the time. However, a few of the verbs use either être or avoir depending on the context. This is a short answer quiz. This AP Spanish® oral presentation project about identity is one of my very favorites!  Your AP Spanish® students will love exploring their own identity and also learning about their teacher's and their classmates’ identities.  Everyone will enjoy this short project! And teachers, you will love this project for 2 reasons; you will get to know your students in a new way and you can combine speaking, listening and writing in one project!

Using the metaphor of an iceberg, students will tell their class about the things that are obvious to all about their identity, and also share some things that hide below the surface.  

As students present, the others take notes on what they reveal. As a follow up assignment, students (and teacher too!) write short letters to each other to acknowledge the courage it takes to speak in public, especially about the parts of yourself that may not be visible to the world. Receiving letters from their classmates and teacher is often something that students will remember forever and treasure. It's a great bonding experience for the class!

The student instructions and rubric are included, as well as some helpful tips about how teachers can make these presentations work either in person or with students online.

• There are many ways to have students present their Icebergs, depending on the size of your class, how much class time you would like to use, and if you students are in person, hybrid or online.  All of the options are explained in the included teacher notes!
• During the presentations, all the listeners take notes on what they hear
• After the presentations, all listeners will write short letters to their classmates
• Collect students' icebergs and hang them up in your classroom!

Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of the environment to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

These no-prep activities include everything you need to assign and go!  Each activity has 5 audio links for a total of 10 prompts.  Students listen to the audio and record a logical response.  They will hear common expressions used on the AAPPL Test like “Hazme preguntas, cuéntame and dame detalles”. 

The teacher script allows you to correct with ease or even record your own voice if you choose. There are lots of notes and ideas for teachers so you know just how to use this activity! Finally, students can self-assess with the included rubric.  The 2 activities are created with different levels of complexity, so you can differentiate for different levels amongst your students, or use them at different points in your unit!

• Spanish students in Year 3 and up
• Students learning vocabulary related to the environment and current challenges with the environment

How can I use this product?

• Assign via Google Classroom or other learning platform (students can work at their own pace)

Spanish students can practice conversing with these simulated conversations.  Answering questions can be difficult for students, but these 5 (MORE) interpersonal speaking tasks give students some general information about what they will hear and how they should answer.  An audio link accompanies each conversation, with a 20 second timed pause for students to answer.  There is also a rubric for easy feedback!

These simulated conversations mimic the AP Spanish Simulated Conversation task and are also great practice for Seal of Biliteracy tests (like AAPPL) where interpersonal speaking is one of the tasks. Start practicing early!

Teaching Pre-AP Spanish students?  Spark interest by using a topic they love-Music!  This Intermediate-Mid level listening activity about a  Bachata Competition is a great way to scaffold listening to help prepare students for AP Spanish.  This recorded conversation between 2 friends comes with 8 comprehension questions.  Some mimic AP Spanish Exam style questions and others check for basic comprehension.  There are 2 open-ended questions to help students think deeply and make connections to other things they know.
