Real-Life Math fun! Geometric Series, Compound Interest and Financial Maths II

By Daniel

With this fun activity, students learn valuable real-Life Math lessons.

In this task, (with answer key), students invest $50 at the start of every month and then calculate the value of each $50 at the end of that year. The future value of an annuity like this $50 monthly investment is the real-life application of the sum of a geometric series.

Recurring investments (annuities) is a geometric series. The formula for the sum of a geometric series is therefore also the formula for the future value of an annuity. When students realize this, they never need to try to memorize two formulas. They also make the connection between the 2 sections of mathematics and realize that it is fact the same mathematics.

Arithmetic Sequences, Arithmetic Series, Geometric Sequences, Geometric Series, Compound Interest, Future Value, Present Value, Annuities, Sum of an Arithmetic Series, Sum of a Geometric Series.

FAMILY DYNAMICS IN POETRY: Poems on Parent-Child Relationships | 3-Day Lesson

By Rigorous Resources for High School English

This 45-page EDITABLE poetry curriculum promises to elicit dynamic engagement from all students without compromising on intellectual rigor. The 12 poems in this mini-unit all focus on the complex nature of family dynamics and parent-child relationships.

Because teenagers are caught up in complex relationships with their parents, these poems will set the stage for your class to have authentic discussions that inspire a whole new depth of reflection. The literary devices quizzes, discussion prompts, and analytical writing assignment will challenge your students to dig beneath the surface of the text and generate profound interpretive insights!

Here are some highlights from this 45-page curriculum:

Homework Packets with Poems about Parent-Child Relationships: The two homework packets contain a total of 12 poems by a diverse range of award-winning poets such as Sylvia Plath, Theodore Roethke, Sharon Olds, Audre Lorde, Li-Young Lee, Galway Kinnell, Tony Hoagland, Ada Limón, and others. Every poem focuses on a different kind of parent-child dynamic. Because teenagers have a lot to say about relationships with parents, these poems will set the stage for your class to have fascinating and profoundly productive discussions!! (12 pages)

Literary Devices Glossary: A glossary with definitions and examples of the various types of figurative language, imagery, stanzas, and syntactic devices. Many teachers already have a glossary of literary devices, but I'm providing this in case you need one. (2 pages)

Literary Devices Quizzes: Open each class with a quiz of 10 questions to assess whether your students can accurately identify the literary devices used in the poems from the homework packets: metaphor, personification, symbolism, imagery, alliteration, etc. The digital versions of the quizzes on Google Forms will grade every student's work and automatically generate a list of their scores. Answer keys included. (4 pages).

Discussion Questions: This bundle features a list of discussion questions for the first poem in each of the homework packets. The discussion questions will ensure that every class discussion starts on a productive foot. Every discussion question is grounded in concrete textual details and challenges students to arrive at lucid interpretive insights! The questions lend themselves to a range of different pedagogical uses: 1) to focus students’ thinking prior to beginning a discussion, 2) to prompt in-class writing, 3) to assign written reflections for homework, etc. Guaranteed to elicit student engagement and foster deep thinking! Answer keys included. (10 pages)

Quick Writes: The quick writes give students an opportunity to capture and refine the best ideas generated in the discussion. Quick writes can also help reticent students to gather their thoughts so they'll feel ready and eager to contribute. (4 pages)

Analytical Writing Assignment: Challenge students to take their interpretations one step further by writing an analytical paper on a poem of their choice. The assignment sheet contains detailed instructions for how to generate a formalist analysis of a poem (analyzing how the poem's formal features contribute to its meaning). This kind of formalist analysis is exactly what students are asked to generate on the AP Literature exam! Sample paper included. (3 pages)

This entire 44-page unit will come to you in two separate formats: Word *and* PDF. Because the Word doc is fully editable, you'll be able to customize the materials to suit the skill levels of your students — year after year! If you don't have Microsoft Word, you'll still be able to access all of the materials as a PDF — which is easy to navigate and quick to print! Finally, as a free bonus, I'm including links to digital copies of every document in user-friendly platforms like Google Docs and Google Forms.

My store is called “Rigorous Resources” because all of the resources contain rigorous content that will motivate students to engage in thought-provoking and productive discussions. Thank you for choosing “Rigorous Resources”!!

Happy teaching!

Daily Wrap Up: Student Objective and Closure Log

By Brittany Henderson

I use this form for students to keep track of the objectives for the day. At the end of class they are required to write something that they learned or maybe something that they already knew that we went into more depth about. They are also required to state something that they want more information about or would clarify something that we talked about. This is a simple way to quickly assess the lesson. I use this along side our student planners and agendas. This is sometimes my ticket out the door.

Money Skills & Budgeting Assessment -Life Skills ABA Autism SPED

By All Therapy Resources

This assessment can be utilized to identify a baseline for individuals around their knowledge of money. This assessment explores an individual’s ability to identify coins and notes, explores value, the ability to count money and budget. This assessment is divided into seven specific areas and each area can be used in isolation to each other, or together to form a comprehensive assessment.

These areas include:

1. Basic Numeracy Skills

2.Written amounts

3.Colour recognition and value

4.Coin and note recognition

5.Budgeting assessment

6.Monetary values

7.Budgeting

It is ideal that all sections are completed to give a general picture of the level of skills the Student currently has. The assessor needs to complete the scores in each section as well as placing a comment next to the score. It is important that the assessor provides a comment so that all relevant material can be extracted, and the most appropriate program be designed for each Student.

SCORING - the assessor is to place a number score into the column next to the question. The scores go from 1 - 3 depending on the skill of the Student.

1. Completed independently - i.e., no assistance at all from the assessor, (no verbal or gestural prompts).

2. Completed with assistance - i.e., assessor may need to verbally prompt or point to correct response.

3. Can not do - even with prompts the Student is unable to complete correct response.

From the baseline a money recognition / budget program can be developed to meet the individual needs of each Student.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED - The assessor will need to have the following equipment available prior to commencing the assessment:

• Money in the form of coins and notes up to the value of $100.00. Should you not have the physical money, this resource includes the options to print a paper copy of the coins/notes which will suffice.

• A printed copy of this assessment and associated worksheets.

NOTE: This assessment is designed for Australian audiences as it uses Australian money.

DEMO Lesson 0: Intro to Java

By Howlin' Husky Math Games

THIS IS A DEMO OF A LESSON IN THE COURSE. IT ONLY INCLUDES THE SLIDES, PACING GUIDE, AND THE ASSIGNMENT.

THE ACTUAL LESSON ALSO INCLUDES A PDF ANSWER KEY, AND .JAVA RUNNABLE ANSWER KEY.

THIS WILL ALLOW YOU TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THE FULL COURSE LOOKS LIKE!

Hello and welcome!

Are you math teacher and have been thrown into teaching a computer science course? Now you have NO IDEA where to start! Have you taught computer science, but want to try something else? Math and computer science are related, but are not the same!

I have your back. I've been teaching math and computer science, including APCSP, APCSA, and Data Structures for almost two decades. I also teach an introduction course. This is part of the course I made up for my intro students. I have a BS in computer science and know what students need to know.

This is part 0 ("computer people" start counting at 0, we'll learn why!) and part 1 of an introductory Programming in Java lesson. These lessons are meant to be done on the first few days; the idea is to get students doing cool stuff as fast as possible. With Java, that is NOT an easy task.

Topics:

Programming in Java 0: An Introduction to Java

How to start using Java- installing the compiler

General error types

HelloWorld project

All lessons will come with the following:

a pdf slideshow

an assignment, differentiated with three different levels!

A pacing guide with hints for teaching the section and common student
errors

an answer key in pdf form

an answer key in .java form

THE DEMO HAS NO ANSWERS

Depending on your style, you could go over Programming in Java 0 on day 1, then let students play around. Go over Programming in Java 1 the next day and give them the attached assignment. Or you could just give them the slides and assignment and let them play.

Let students explore and make mistakes. Let them talk to each other and discuss their approaches. Programming takes a lot of trial and error.

Great for asynchronous learning and homeschooling! Could be used as a self- taught lesson or go at your own pace! Everything for learning is included!

Welcome to the world of programming! It's going to be a blast!

I also reviewed how I conference with students: as a class, in a small group, and in a one-on-one situation. I used my pinch pot clay sculpture unit to showcase U.D.L. & Conferencing in my Art Room. I had students use the U.D.L. Checklist Worksheet to focus on Engagement, Representation, and Expression. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.
