Writing the Final Sound in Words

By SEN Resource Source

4 worksheets in which children need to use the picture and the first part of the word to work out and write what the final sound in the word would be. Simple 3 and 4 letter words.

Why do you need this?

Isolating ending sounds builds phonemic awareness, a key early reading skill. These worksheets give students practice identifying final sounds in simple words through fun fill-in-the-blank activities.

Filling in missing sounds reinforces sounding out abilities critical for spelling and reading. Recognizing final phonemes aids rhyming and phonics skills too. These worksheets allow assessment of skill progression with CVC and CCVC words.

How and when might you use this?

Each page displays 10 illustrated words with the final letters missing. Using the picture and initial sounds as clues, children must determine and write in the last letter to complete the terms. For example, seeing a picture of a p-i- _ would cue writing in "g" to spell "pig".

Parents and teachers can incorporate the pages into lessons or independent practice.

What’s included?

4 PDF worksheets

Group Creative Writing: Practice Character, Setting, Conflict, & Resolution

By E•Fish•ient Teaching

This is such a fun creative writing activity. This activity has students work in a small group to create a fun and unique story. They will be passing around their writing outline to their group of 5. The first student will choose a character and their characteristics. Then fold the paper down so the next student cannot see what they have written. Student 2 will decide the setting and then fold the paper down again. This will continue to student 3 and 4 where they will choose the conflict and the solution. Then the original student will get their paper back and open their paper and use their outline to create their own creative story. This makes the writing a little bit challenging as they try to create a story that was chosen by their fellow classmates. This can also be a super fun and creative way to expand students writing by stretching them a little outside their comfort zone.

Outer Space Roll a Story

By Creative Soul Printables

Launch creativity into orbit with Outer Space Roll a Story! This imaginative writing activity takes students on an out-of-this-world storytelling adventure with space-themed characters, problems, and settings.

Contents:
With Outer Space Roll a Story, students use a dice to randomly select the characters, story problems, and settings for their space-themed story. This activity includes:

  • 6 Characters: Students might encounter astronauts, aliens, space pirates, and more!
  • 6 Problems: Will they face an alien invasion, get lost in space, or tackle another cosmic dilemma?
  • 6 Settings: From spaceships to distant alien planets, each roll opens up a new backdrop for their intergalactic tales.
  • Lined Story Paper Options: After rolling, students can organize and expand their ideas on lined paper, outlining and then drafting their unique space adventure.

How It Works:
Students will roll a dice three times—once for each story element—to build a completely randomized story prompt. With character, problem, and setting in hand, they move on to the included lined paper to outline and write their stories. This process sparks creativity while reinforcing story structure in a fun, hands-on way.

Why You’ll Love This Product:
Outer Space Roll a Story adds an exciting twist to creative writing! Students love the randomness of each roll, and teachers will appreciate how this activity promotes imagination, vocabulary building, and structured writing practice. It’s perfect for independent writing time, literacy centers, or a fun end-of-the-week activity.

Features:

  • 6 space-themed characters, problems, and settings for endless story combinations
  • Dice-based prompts that take the guesswork out of planning and keep students engaged
  • Outer space-themed lined paper for easy story organization
  • 8.5x11 pages for easy printing and classroom use

How This Product Can Be Used in the Classroom or Other Educational Settings:

  1. Writing center activity: A perfect addition to writing centers, where students can independently create new stories.
  2. Storytelling practice: Use as a storytelling prompt in small groups, encouraging students to share their tales.
  3. Vocabulary building: Space-themed characters, problems, and settings offer fun new words for young learners.
  4. Creative time: A great option for free-write sessions, early finisher activities, or end-of-week creative writing time.
  5. Themed writing week: Incorporate this into a space-themed week to connect to lessons on the solar system or science fiction.
