What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from Kindergarten to Grade Three will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

This one-week French reading passage comprehension program will have your students reading in French every day of the week. These reading passages following the theme "Si j'allais au zoo avec mes amis..." include five separate reading activities for Monday through Friday with three comprehension questions each. These activities are perfect for core French or immersion programs.

These reading worksheets are a great way to practice themed vocabulary, see sight words in action, and to improve overall comprehension.

Each activity includes a paragraph to be read three times, once for each of the three questions that follow. Students check off the circled numbers each time they read the text and then they answer the corresponding questions.

2 French Children's Story Videos (Petit Poulet and L'Oiseau et la baleine) from The French Experiment are linked.

For your beginner Core French class, I recommend having students watch one of the videos in French first with no subtitles. Have them try to answer as many questions as possible from the accompanying worksheet. You might want to play the video at .75x speed if you teach elementary students.

Next, play the video once more, this time with subtitles. Students will be able to fill in the blanks they missed the first time around.

The last question for each of the stories allow students to think critically about the lesson each story teaches.

The worksheets are in English. The videos are in French.

I found this allows students to think about what they are watching more carefully, learning more French words along the way.

An answer key is not included, but the questions are very simple and you will be able to answer them easily after watching the video. I wrote the answers while watching the videos along with the students.

French Number Lines are not always easy to find to fit the tone and feeling of your classroom! I have developed this number line with simple font and easy to read numbers and words so that your students can get started on reading their numbers together. This bright coloured French Number Line will look great in your classroom whether you are just starting out or if you need a fresh new look part-way through the year!

What to expect:

-Numerical bubble with one number in each circle

-numbers 1 to 100 (with an extra bubble with '0' in it for use if you choose)*

*Please note the font I chose does not have an 'accent aigu' so you will have to add it in your own hand.

I have added this number line to my classroom and the students started organically using it whenever a number comes up in conversation. We have a clear gateway to practice from any number and we count forward and backward depending on the whim of the day. Students love to be the one to choose our number of the day and we get counting!

French Pink Shirt Day FREEBIE

This quick and easy resource is for use near the end of the month of February to recognize Pink Shirt Day. The story behind this day is one that has a positive influence on students as they understand that it is not OK to bully EVER.

I hope you are able to use this resource in your class by quickly making copies and allowing students to use their creativity and unique perspectives to colour and decorate how they see fit.

Personally, I made copies onto pink printer paper in poster size 200% to make two big posters with the title 'Jour du chandail rose' and students have placed their Tshirts around the poster. Older students will also make theirs with a writing piece to explain their views on Pink Shirt Day in French.

1. Copy a set for students. I like to copy multiple sets (ie. 3 sets of 8 to insure that students sitting with one another do not have the same page next to them. I find this allows for more creative development as they do not copy their neighbour).

2. Let students colour and create and cut the shape of the Tshirt out

3. Display on a bulletin board or on the wall of your school

French Sentence Builder Worksheets For Beginners

These French sentence builder worksheets are great for helping your beginner students practice writing sentences using high frequency verbs, grammatical structures, and vocabulary words. Have a look at the preview to see exactly what each worksheet looks like.

Three worksheets are included, and each one provides at least four different sentence options, so everyone won't be writing exactly the same thing. Choosing sentence components makes this activity fun! As students they work through steps 1 - 3, they will check boxes for the components they want to include in their final three sentence paragraph which they will write at the bottom of the page.

Students will practice reading, 1 - 2- 3 - 4 step sentence building, and writing their French sentences while checking to make sure they have all of the necessary components.
