Engage your students with this comprehensive Cinco de Mayo Activity Set, designed to help them have a basic understanding of this Mexican holiday. This set includes a variety of activities suitable for students in grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and even 6.

This activity set includes five different activities that challenge students to learn new vocabulary, facts, and perspectives related to Cinco de Mayo.

The activities are:

• 3 Cinco de Mayo Reading Comprehension Passages: The passages focus on the history of Cinco de Mayo and how this cultural holiday is celebrated. Multiple-choice questions and answer keys are also included for each passage.
• Word Search Puzzle: Find 25 hidden words related to the Cinco de Mayo in a grid of letters. The words can be horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or backward.
• Crossword Puzzle: Solve 10 clues to fill in the crossword puzzle with words related to the Cinco de Mayo.
• Word Scramble: Unscramble 11 words related to Cinco de Mayo and write them in the correct spaces.
• Vocabulary Passage: Read a short passage about the Cinco de Mayo and fill in the blank spaces with the correct words from the vocabulary list. The passage introduces some important terms and concepts related to this cultural event.

Each activity comes with an answer key for teachers and allows students to check their work independently.

This resource is a science driven, easy to use pack to use when investigating all things pumpkin! Pumpkinology is a great way to incorporate kindergarten science standards in a fun, fall themed way.

Cut off the top of a pumpkin and let them scoop out the insides to count seeds, estimate how many counting cubes tall is a pumpkin, how many paperclips will it take to fit around the pumpkin? Will the pumpkin sink or float? What is the life cycle of a pumpkin? Color or use tissue paper to produce a tear art version to create their very own pumpkin.

I use this resource in my classroom on October 31st as part of our fall party! We investigate all things pumpkin and the grand finale is when we carve a face on the pumpkin, add in baking soda, vinegar and green food coloring to make the pumpkin explode (outside of course)! This is a day your students will remember for years to come!

• Halloween party and make each investigation a station
• Week long investigation of pumpkin attributes
• Science project to let little learners estimate what they think will happen

This unit was designed (and taught) for a grade 5-7 mixed ability group.

If you want to get your students to think about the world around them and understand that everyone in the world has the same rights, but not everyone actually gets those rights, this is the unit to do this. Using explanatory writing as the genre of writing, students learn about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, while learning how to write different explanatory writing formats.
