Slope (Gradient) is a very practical real-life experience for all of us - we climb stairs daily and walk up and down very steep and less steep inclines. In this practical, outside activity, students encounter slope first hand and then make sense of the mathematics behind it. Students are then encouraged to think about the real-life applications and implications that slope has in the life of people like the elderly and the handicapped.
Linear equations, slope, rise over run, gradient, y=mx+b.

A brilliant Real-Life activity that will cement the subject matter in a way that no normal classroom Math exercise can!
This 12-page task and key is a DIY alternative to repetitive and boring Data and Statistics tasks. Students will use measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion to make real life choices about planting certain crops or not, which sports team will win a game given the weight and height of the players, etc. The product improves students' understanding of the use of the following statistics:

This printable resource includes a task with complete key. Students will use their knowledge of the volume of a prism to do an investigation into fair marketing and sales practices. Lots of containers of consumer products have a "false bottom". Do the retailers cheat us with this or do we get the amount we pay for? Real-Life Math fun Practicing Substitution, interesting Prime Number Discovery!

Algebraic substitution is not very exciting at best. Finding a formula that always generates prime numbers will make you world famous. This task card combines the two math skills into an exciting discovery exercise. Students get to explore the effectiveness of certain formulas in generating primes (while they are doing lots of substitution). Eventually they will see that this exercise is futile, but will hopefully have fun on the journey.
