Have your student examine and explore the Environmental Issues Around the World 5 Geographical Themes lesson in your geography classroom and encourage them to use their higher-level thinking skills to identify and problem-solve. Students will learn about the world's environmental issues through presentations of the final products. In addition to problem-solving skills. students will practice public speaking skills, which they will take into the world.

OBJECTIVE:

• The learner will identify an environmental issue around the world.
• The learner will be able to recognize things they can do to save our earth.
• The learner will be able to illustrate an environmental issue that is harmful to our environment and present a solution to the problem.
• The learner will revisit and apply the 5 geographical themes.

MATERIALS FOR RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Access to the Internet for research (or) various printed articles, one for each team. Suggestions of articles are provided, but as time evolves, the issues may change and the articles may become irrelevant or outdated. Please make sure to keep your articles updated. The way to avoid outdated articles is to allow students to choose their articles and complete research. The instructor may also choose his/her articles for this lesson. I HATE writing seating charts and I made these so I wouldn’t have to anymore.

But I didn’t stop there... I wanted a way to organize students more efficiently for checking work and giving feedback, as well as having a way to modify my seating chart based on my instructional needs, so I made all kinds of seating charts and used my knowledge of Excel to make this SMART. (How to instructions and videos are included!!)

What Can You Do With This?

• Sort students by mastery to focus on a specific part of the classroom for intervention
• Sort students by work speed to give feedback to students who may work more quickly, and give those students who may work slower more time to complete their assignment before having feedback.
• Sort student translators with non-native speakers for assistance.
• Add a column with #1 (and sort) to designate students who may be on the cusp of advancing .These students will be at the front of your check-ins during independent practice.
• Quickly see what classifications students might have (Special Education, 504 plans, Emergent Bilinguals) so you can provide supplemental materials required by law or your school.
• When you print this out, the Legend is not visible to students or to a substitute. Student information will not be shared outside of the circle it needs to stay in. (requires numbers or letters in the columns)
• Change your seating chart instantly to adapt student seating based on instructional goals.

Desert Island Explorer is an engaging, two-week game-based sub unit designed for grades 5 to 9, offering an immersive and bilingual experience centered around the theme of desert islands. This creative Winter Concert Decorations: Art Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this PDF file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on the big screen. For this assignment, I asked students to get with a partner or into small groups and brainstorm subject matter, orientation, and theme of the overall composition. Plus, decide which group member(s) will be in charge of what to draw and where to draw it. Students will need to sketch out ideas first inside a sketchbook, transfer the sketches to Final Copy Paper, outline the large image, and start coloring in everything with crayon. Sadly, most other art materials will ruin the roll paper. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy!

Winter break has come to an end and students will soon fill the seats of your classroom. Use this icebreaker activity when your kiddos return in January to engage your learners before diving back into the meat of things!
