A Powerpoint which provides a brief overview of rhythm and rhyme scheme using poetry. I've used this as an introduction to poetry and pair this up with a poem in which students must find the rhyme scheme. It can be used with any poem.

This power point goes through the different aspects of comedies found in Shakespeare's plays. A great resource to use before reading one of his comedies, put into an easy-to-understand lesson. Students may take notes from the power point and it includes examples of the concepts found in different plays.

Getting students excited about poetry and figurative language can be difficult. I find that putting it into terms of music often with popular songs makes the process more enjoyable for them and myself. This product contains a powerpoint with links to videos, worksheets which examine both figurative language and poetry, and most of is an interactive lesson that will have your students singing while they're learning.

This product includes 30 graphic organizers of different historical women. Students fill out the graphic organizer by conducting research on their given person and then are given instructions on how to write an acrostic biographical poem. Rubric for the final poem is included in this product. Great for project for Women's History Month.

Students will do a close read of "Phenomenal Woman" by Maya Angelou and "All the Single Ladies" by Beyonce looking for the key ideas and details, as well as the themes of both pieces. Students will also be asked to compare and contrast both works. Comes complete with answer key.

This product will allow your students to easily understand and analyze Sandra Cisneros' "Abuelito Who" by breaking it down line-by-line!

Instruct your students to fold the paper in half the long way, and to cut along the black lines into the midline of the paper. They will end up with a long, skinny version of the poem on the front of the flaps, and analysis question inside.

As they read the poem, they will peel back the flap to reveal questions that ask them to analyze the poem for theme, characterization, tone, mood, diction, imagery, and figurative language. This poem works well paired with Cisneros' other works, coming of age stories, or texts that deal with themes of family, love, and loss.
