The main Christian holiday, Easter, commemorates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day following his crucifixion. Although the commemoration of Jesus' Resurrection most likely took place earlier, the first known Easter celebration dates to the second century.

In the Christian calendar, Easter comes after Lent, which is 40 days before to Easter (excluding Sundays) and is customarily marked by fasting and penance. Holy Week, which encompasses Good Friday, the day of Jesus' crucifixion; Maundy Thursday, the celebration of his Last Supper with his followers; and Holy Saturday, the period between his crucifixion and resurrection, comes right before Easter.

This lesson plan on the history of Easter will last 90 minutes. It includes the various teaching stages and their duration. Photocopiable students' worksheet are also included, along with their answer sheet. The lesson plan uses the video 'History of the Holidays: Easter' by the acclaimed History Channel (YouTube link in the content).

New Year's Write the Room: Celebrate the New Year with this engaging printable write-the-room activity! Use this writing activity in your AVID classroom, ELA, or any content area. This activity features 8 unique labels you can display around your room, each representing a letter to spell out "New Year." The Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Unit is part of my Field Trip Unit Series. The series was created with homeschoolers in mind, but can be adapted to be used in a classroom as well. Field trips are a great way to supplement learning, but often homeschoolers don’t get any background information on the location of their field trip and want to enrich their experience by expanding the learning at home before and after the trip. These units help give information and fun activities before and after the field trip.

These units are available in PreK/Kinder, Elementary, and Middle & High School levels. All Pumpkin Patch Field Trip Units follow the same outline and the parent/teacher info sheet is the same for all three so that if you have children of several ages, you can seamlessly teach them together. • Access your forced copy of the Google Doc with the article on solar eclipses. Allow students to read, take notes in the margin, and summarize the article by answering the essential question at the top.

• Go to the last slide to add your own discussion prompts.

• Click "File" then "Download" and then "PDF" to download the prompts as a PDF document.

• Print, cut, and laminate a set of cards for each of your groups of 4-5 students.

• Print, cut, and laminate talking chips.

• Put students into groups of 4-5.

• Decide how many talking chips each student gets (this encourages participation during the dialogue and teaches students how to use social cues when deciding when to share, instead of raising a hand).

• One student draws a card from the top. That student asks the question and dialogue begins in the group. Students should have the short story handy so they can use evidence in their responses.

• When dialogue dies down, students continue taking turns drawing a card, asking questions. and having discussions.

• Students should discard the questions already asked so they don't repeat any.
