• Blank Verse: A 2-page handout on the when and why Shakespeare employs blank verse (i.e. unrhymed iambic pentameter). This handout explains how blank verse emerged as a popular verse form as well as what distinguished Shakespeare's usage of blank verse. When and why do some of Shakespeare's characters break with the regular rhythms of blank verse? Why might some characters alternate between using verse and prose? (2 pages)

• Scansion Practice: Students learn to identify iambic pentameter by scanning 10 well-known quotations from Shakespeare's plays. Includes answer key. (4 pages)

• Quizzes on Meter (x2): The 2 quizzes on meter are designed to asses whether students are able to accurately scan Shakespearean lines. Each quiz features 10 quotations from Shakespeare's plays. Includes answer keys. (8 pages)

• Shakespearean Insult Generator: Shakespeare's characters are exceptionally creative in their elaboration of insults. Indeed, some scholars have suggested that the insults in Shakespeare's plays amount to their own education in wit. If your students are sufficiently mature, you could use this exercise to invite them to generate their own original Shakespearean insults. (2 pages)

The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. There are 26 speaking parts, all rewritten to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. The play script has been rewritten to be suitable for young performers. A Midsummer Night’s Dream tells the story of four Athenian lovers who have a complicated yet dramatic love life. Lysander and Hermia loved each other and wished to be together. Helena loved Demetrius, but Demetrius loved Hermia, and Hermia’s father wanted him to marry his daughter.

Hermia and Lysander decided to run off together into the woods. But the woods were haunted by the Fairy King and Queen - Oberon and Titania, and the King’s mischievous henchman, Puck. The play tells the magical story of the eventual coming together of the four lovers, and Duke Theseus and his bride, Hippolyta.

I hope you enjoy it – good luck! There are 26 speaking roles with parts for the whole class; the language is a mix of Shakespearean and more modern English. Ideal for theatre performances or plays, reading activities or guided reading sessions.

• Bradbury FAQs: In the first task, students must complete a crossword puzzle with questions about Ray Bradbury. Once complete, they must unscramble circled boxes to reveal the first code.
• Write Every Day: Did you know that Ray Bradbury wrote every single day since he was 12 years old? In the second task, students must find 25 titles of short stories, novels, and screenplays that Bradbury wrote in a word search. Remaining letters will form the second code.
• Extra! Extra! Read All About it!: In the third task, students must match fictional newspaper headlines with the short story by Bradbury that they represent. This task is in the form of a mat puzzle and the code is revealed when students have matched all short stories correctly.
• If Only We Had Taller Been: In the fourth task, students must perform a close reading of one of Bradbury's most famous poems, If Only We Had Taller Been. He read this poem in 1971 the day before the Space Probe Mariner 9 landed on Mars.
