Real-Life Math fun activity! Volume of Prisms- Did I get cheated with Ice Cream?

This printable resource includes a task with complete key. Students will use their knowledge of the volume of a prism to do an investigation into fair marketing and sales practices. Lots of containers of consumer products have a "false bottom". Do the retailers cheat us with this or do we get the amount we pay for? Other math topics needed to do this resource successfully include area of circles, ratios and percents.

Money Sorting Mats-Math Center Activity

The Money Combinations Activity is a great addition for students to practice combining money. This product is a fantastic activity for Math Centers, Whole Class Activity, Partner Practice, or Individualized fun! Students will have different Sorting Mats to show one amount of money, using four different combinations of coins (teachers can set the goal for students to use the least amount of coins/dollar bills). Students will love to challenge themselves to find a common sum with different coin values combined. Laminate the four sorting mats, the amount of money tabs, and the coin templates. Keep all the products in a zip lock bags to re-use year after year.

-10 different dollar amount tabs
-5 money templates (dollar bill, quarter, dime, nickel, and penny).

If teachers have a money kit, students can use the plastic coins rather than the templates included. Students can check their own work with the answer key and record the combinations from the mats on their record sheet. Each combination correct is worth one point.

Are your students working on telling time? This double set of task cards offer practice with telling time to the half hour, fifteen, five, and one minute increments. Set one has 32 multiple choice task cards for extra practice. Set two offers clocks for students to draw the hands to show the time either on the cards or on the answer sheet. Task cards can be projected onto a smart board for whole group practice; used for games such as Scoot or Jeopardy; placed in centers or workstations, and used for tutoring, seatwork, or other types of individual practice.
