If We Were Gone: Imagining the World Without People: activity sheets

By Tomorrowcomes

Imagine a world without people. What changes would occur? How would the earth evolve without the influence of mankind? "If We Were Gone: Imagining the World Without People" by John Coy, with illustrations by Natalie Capannelli, answers these intriguing questions. This engaging children's story paints the picture of an earth reverting back to its natural state of jungles and forests, engaging young minds in a thought-provoking reflection on humanity's impact on our world.

This story is an excellent read for earth day, or indeed any time of the year. It serves to educate children about our environment and encourages them to consider the importance of conservation and responsible living.

This 10-page resource is used to enhance learning and comprehension. This resource provides six coloring activity sheets suitable for a variety of grade ranges. These engaging activities are designed to stimulate creativity and understanding, while reinforcing the messages in the story.

For older students, there's a story element sheet, ideal for enhancing comprehension and deepening understanding of narrative elements. This worksheet encourages children to deconstruct the story, identifying key elements such as the setting, characters, and main point.

Also included is a writing prompt exercise, designed to encourage children to express their thoughts and ideas about the story. This activity is an excellent way for children to develop their writing and critical thinking skills.

Finally, there's a True/False quiz designed to test students' comprehension of the story. This fun quiz helps reinforce learning and provides teachers and parents with a tangible measure of understanding.

"If We Were Gone: Imagining the World Without People" is more than just a story; it's a powerful educational tool, designed to inspire children to learn about and appreciate the world around them. Through engaging activities and thought-provoking narrative, this book encourages children to reflect on their place in the world and their impact on the environment.

Celebrate Earth Day with this engaging set of 3 Earth Day Planet vs Plastics Reading Comprehension Passages with multiple-choice questions. The passages are designed for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 to enlighten young minds about the pressing issue of plastic pollution.

This year’s 2024 Earth Day theme is Planet vs Plastics. It is meant to educate the world on the escalating crisis of plastic pollution by challenging us to reflect on our consumption habits and encourage proactive steps toward a sustainable future free from the harmful effects of plastics on our planet.

So, to help the students learn about this important day, we have prepared the following passages;

  • What is Plastic Pollution? This will help the students understand the alarming impact of plastic waste on our environment and animals.
  • Single-use Plastics: What are they? The students will learn the truth about the convenience of single-use plastics and their long-lasting detriment to the planet.
  • Plastic Recycling Process: This will help the students learn about the journey of recycling, from sorting to making new products, and how it helps combat plastic pollution.

Two passages are paired with thought-provoking multiple-choice questions and one passage has written response questions to assess comprehension. Answer keys are also included.

Our Planet | Episode 2: Frozen Worlds Worksheet and Answer Key

By Danielle Mortimore

Looking for a simple worksheet for students to complete while watching episode 2 of Our Planet: Frozen Worlds?

Our Planet is a British nature documentary series made for Netflix. The series is narrated by David Attenborough and produced by Silverback Films, led by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, who also created BBC documentary series Planet Earth, Frozen Planet and The Blue Planet, in collaboration with the conservation charity World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Netflix has the free episodes of their Our Planet series on YouTube. Each episode is between 49 to 51 minutes long. I usually have students vote on which one they want to watch. You do NOT have to watch them in order.

These episodes are great for sub plans and for days where the students just need to chill, such as after field days or any weird schedule days. Make sure to read the questions to the students beforehand so that they know what information they are looking for.

The product includes...
