Celebrate Earth Day with a Heartfelt Craft!

This Earth Day craft is a fun and interactive way for kindergartener and first-grader students to show their love for our planet!

Materials:

• Construction paper (various colors)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

Instructions:

1. Print the worksheet: The worksheet features 10 heart-shaped prompts with Earth Day themes.
2. Cut out the hearts: Help younger students cut out the hearts or let older children practice their scissor skills independently.
3. Brainstorm and decorate: Guide students in brainstorming answers to the prompts on the hearts. These can be simple phrases or sentences like "I love the Earth because..." or "I can use less trash by..." Encourage creativity with colorful markers, crayons, or pencils.
4. Create a class display: Once decorated, glue the hearts onto a large piece of construction paper. This creates a beautiful and collaborative Earth Day message from the entire class!

This fun activity is great for your students on Earth Day! We all know how students get excited on Valentine's Day! Through this activity, not only will they have fun working together or individually to solve the puzzle, but they will alsohave the opportunity to practice reading the latitude and longitude coordinate grid system (absolute location). Each moment is a teaching moment, and this will allow reinforcement of their map reading skills. They will use the absolute locations that are provided on the key and identify the points on the coordinate grid, drawing one line from one point to another. End the end, they have a photo to color and decorate!

Looking for a simple worksheet for students to complete while watching episode 5 of Our Planet: From Deserts of Grasslands?

Our Planet is a British nature documentary series made for Netflix. The series is narrated by David Attenborough and produced by Silverback Films, led by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey, who also created BBC documentary series Planet Earth, Frozen Planet and The Blue Planet, in collaboration with the conservation charity World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Netflix has the free episodes of their Our Planet series on YouTube. Each episode is between 49 to 51 minutes long. I usually have students vote on which one they want to watch. You do NOT have to watch them in order.

These episodes are great for sub plans and for days where the students just need to chill, such as after field days or any weird schedule days. Make sure to read the questions to the students beforehand so that they know what information they are looking for.
