This colorful, cheerful binder organizes your coupons and makes it easier for you to find just the right coupon you are looking for while out shopping. Teach your students or children in your household the value of saving money by saving coupons. Create your own coupon binder by using baseball card holders that you can find at many dollar stores or office supply stores. You can either use a two inch or three inch binder to set it up and place all your dividers in. There are two coupon sorting sheets available. Rather than flipping through the pages in your binder to insert coupons which can take a lot of time, you can use the coupon sorting mats. Once the coupons are all sorted, you can then place them in your binder. Children of all ages can help with sorting the coupons. Many kids can also help out with gathering coupons and cutting them out. Have your students write about ways they can help their family save money. There are a couple of writing prompts that you could use to have your students share ways that they can help their families save money. This does not necessarily mean just using coupons. Learning about the Stock Market using Microsoft Excel lets middle schoolers see how an investment can grow and change, as well as the importance of thorough research. Utilizing Microsoft Excel, students “purchase” and track several stocks over a 6 week period. They have the opportunity to sell stocks or hold them, depending on the market research they do. Using a template they create in Microsoft Excel, they will track the increases and declines in their stock investments and see how much they can make their initial investment grow during the 6 weeks. This lesson is intended for beginning Excel users and was created using Microsoft Excel 2013. It is easily adaptable for different versions.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Have your students see themselves through the lens of an investigator, exploring a complex and important inquiry…. ‘What factors caused the Great Depression’? Students, or your class investigators, will examine a variety of context clues and information that will help them solve this question. Students will identify the causal clues along with its effects, and then create a ‘LOOP’ (web) diagram that will serve to demonstrate their understandings of how these underlying causes interconnect with one another. This unit will prompt your students to become active learners in their pursuit of solving the mystery.

*This unit will have students explore dynamics of the 1920's, Great Depression, and the New Deal.

In addition, there are 3 optional extension activities to choose from:

1. Comparing advertising from the 1920's to today, and filling out a Venn diagram.
2. Listening to FDR's first fire side chat, and answering comprehension questions.

Fun, Trading Game:

Students will explore the concept of trade routes and tariffs on trade routes along the Spice Road and then the New World.

Students will make trades with the Indies. Then they will then attempt to trade through the Ottoman Empire. Because of the struggle with the Ottoman Empire, they will then attempt to trade with the New World, the East Indies.

When the game is complete, students will complete a trade agreement and pay a final tariff. The student with the largest total at the end wins.

Students can answer questions concerning their game as individuals or as a class in discussion.

This is a lesson over Alexander Hamilton and his role in the United States economy as the first Secretary of the Treasury. Students will read about the Hamilton's economic proposals and then the response and impact of those proposals. Students will answer the questions that follow the reading.

Geography summer school and camps don't give us enough time to cover all the concepts and topics that need to be covered. Squeezing the curriculum

8 months is difficult; covering it over 6-8 weeks is impossible. There is so much information and so little time. This leaves us as educators with the question of what are the important aspects to cover. Having taught middle school level and high school level geography for 11 years, I have pulled out what I feel is a must!

A working knowledge of geography concepts is helpful in teaching this material. If you do not understand geography or if you have never taught geography before, no problem! This lesson involves having students examine the impacts of the Industrial Era in the United States with a specific focus on child labor. It is recommended that students will have explored, to some degree, the Industrial era prior to this lesson. This resource will prompt students to analyze social activist Lewis Hines' photographs that depict the various jobs and working conditions that children experienced. The Slide Presentation is interactive, problem posing, and vicariously draws the students into the lives of the children of the Industrial era.
