By Write On with Jamie
Public Speaking Activities to Organize Your Speech
*****************************************************************************************
Introducing how to organize a speech when writing a speech has never been easier! This lesson guides students through a step-by-step process of understanding how to organize the information in a speech and prepare accordingly. When a middle school student begins a public speaking unit, it is quite often the first time he or she has been required to speak in public, other than the basic Show and Tell in elementary school.
Therefore, it is important to make sure the students become familiar with the basics of how to stand, speak, move, and make eye contact during any type of public speaking situation. This lesson is designed to help the students with all aspects of organizing their speech, so they can prepare their presentation accordingly.
The slide show, and worksheets allow students to practice and develop their public speaking skills. The worksheets reinforce guided note-taking techniques when used in conjunction with the slide show. The detailed lesson plans make implementing public speaking, speech and debate curriculum easy for teachers.
These no-prep lessons are adaptable for in-class instruction, distance learning, or independent student work. The PowerPoints can also be presented as whole class instruction or assigned for students to complete at home.
All materials are available in both Google Drive™ and print formats, ensuring easy access for all students.

DESERT ISLAND EXPLORERS | FRENCH/ENGLISH | LONG TERM SUB PLANS | LESSON PLANS
By French Made Fun!
Desert Island Explorer is an engaging, two-week game-based sub unit designed for grades 5 to 9, offering an immersive and bilingual experience centered around the theme of desert islands. This project-based learning module combines elements of language arts, science, and teamwork to enhance students' critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills.
Nothing is more stressful than having to leave work for an extended time: our profession requires us to plan, to create engaging resources, and to assume the subs covering have French capabilities. We all know that's... not the reality of this profession. When you've gotta be out, you've gotta be out, and frankly, when you're in this position, you've not got the time, energy or mental health to allow for this level of planning. That's where I come in! This ressource covers you for roughly two weeks: providing your sub with direction in English, and activities in both English and French to ensure a seamless absence... And if you aren't actually out (or maybe you're checked out and just a body in the room!) but just want someone to tell you what to do for 2 weeks, this checks out for that, too.
I integrate discussion-based prompts, writing activities, reading activities, film watching, reflections, games, math tasks, group work, projects, presentations, art tasks - just about everything to keep them engaged while you're away! This is a clear and engaging this resource for your next emergency absence.
In this mega crypt of activities relating to desert island survival, you'll discover the following activities:

One Story, Two Perspectives: Exploring Subjectivity and Empathy through Dual-Perspective Narratives 5-8

As students engage with the stories, they'll develop a deeper appreciation for the role that personality, priorities, and life experiences play in shaping one's perception of the world.

This comprehensive resource also includes 20 thought-provoking activities and discussion questions, providing educators with a wealth of tools for extending the lessons of empathy and perspective-taking. From comparative analysis and writing prompts to role-playing exercises and real-world connections, these activities are designed to help students internalize the stories' messages and apply them to their own lives.

AVID Instructional Routine Activity - Layering Focused Notes Strategy
By KJ Inspired Resources
This AVID strategy of layering focused notes is the perfect instructional routine to display for any class in any subject area! Layering is a strategy that clarifies the second and third phases of the focused note-taking process by asking students to revisit their notes multiple times, thinking critically with a different purpose in mind.
Why layering?
Each layer added to the notes is completed in a different color, so a student’s interactions are visible to the instructor and to the student. This not only allows the instructor to assess the quality of the student’s thinking and interaction with the content, but it also solidifies learning about the process and the content itself. Additionally, the use of color enhances retention for visual learners.
Instructional Goals
Students will:
• Add layers of thinking to their notes to process and connect their thinking.
• Use colors to show their repeated interactions with their notes.
Materials needed
If taking notes on paper, students will need a variety of colored pens, colored pencils, highlighters, and markers to use for the note-taking layers.
