Summation Notation Guided Notes | Partner Practice | Homework | High School Math

By AbsoluteValueMath

Learn and practice Summation Notation with this complete lesson. In this print and go lesson, you can print all 8 pages out and give it out as a packet to start the topic. Have them start off completing the word search with vocabulary associated with summation notation. Go through the guided notes with summation notation examples with them (or they can do it alone with the guidance of the notes). Then have them work with a partner to complete the partner problems. After that they will complete the independent practice to see what they understand on their own. You can assign them the HW for the night. The next day they can summarize what they learned, reflect on what was challenging and what was not and then rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 to self assess how well they understood summation notation.

ANSWER KEY INCLUDED.

WHAT YOU GET:

>> DO NOW: Students will complete a short word search to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary associated with Summation Notation. They will fill in a chart reflecting on words they have heard of and have not.

>> GUIDED NOTES: You can go through the vocabulary, summation notation and 6 guided examples with your students.

>>PARTNER PROBLEMS: They will each complete 5 problems each and then check each others problems to reinforce the concepts of summation notation.

>>INDEPENDENT PROBLEMS: Students will then work alone to see how well they understand summation notation on their own without the help of their partner and complete 10 problems.

>>HW: Students will complete 6 practice problems to practice summation notation.

>>SUMMARIZE, REFLECT, ASSESS: Students will summarize the lesson, reflect on the challenges they had and then self assess from 1-4 to determine how well they understood summation notation.

Operations on Rational Expressions - Board Game - Very low preparation

By Brooke Seabolt Math Resources

This is a fun and engaging game that can be used as a review or an informal assessment of operations on rational expressions. The operations included are adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.

Minimal preparation for game is needed. Just copy the board games on card stock or laminate if you plan to reuse. Will need some sort of game pieces, but these could be colored paper shapes. I suggest dice, but could use with spinners just as easily.

Answer key and blank board game is included for students to write their answers.
