Heart Beats Interactive Rhythm Game with 18 Worksheets

It's never a bad time to review rhythms with your students, and have we got an interactive game for you!
Our HEARTBEATS INTERACTIVE GAME is a great way to not only review beats and rhythms but tie in technology as well!
This is a zipped resource that includes a presentation software interactive game, and accompanying worksheets if you'd like to use them! Since the game is a presentation file format, you can upload and use this with popular presentation applications such as Google Slides, Mac Keynote, and Microsoft PowerPoint, and you can try to upload this
Heart Beats uses words and stick notation to review Quarter Notes, 8th Notes, 16th Notes, and Quarter Rests.
In the presentation file, you will have the following slides after the title and direction slides:
- Quarter and 8th Notes as words: Heart and Heart Beats
- Quarter Notes and Rests and 8th Notes as Words: Heart, Heart Beat, and SHH.
- Quarter Notes and Rests, 8th Notes, and 16th Notes as words: Heart, Heart Beat, Tasty Candy, and SHH.
- Quarter and 8th Notes as Stick Notation
- Quarter Notes and Rests and 8th Notes as Stick Notation
- Quarter Notes and Rests, 8th Notes, and 16th Notes as Stick Notion.
To play the game, simply select the slide you'd like to use with your kids, drag the colored hearts to the blank hearts on the slide and you've composed your own heartbeat! It's that easy! Everything else is locked down so the only moveable objects in the slides are the hearts to compose with.
As a bonus, we've also included a set of 18 worksheets to go along with the game if you'd like to include them or use them as a stand-alone activity as well. On the worksheets there is enough room for students to compose four of their own heart beats in 4/4 time. These worksheets use the stick notation only and include:

A departure from our typical popular music fare, we now offer you a throwback to the 1970s with Kansas' hit tune "Carry on my Wayward Son" for BUCKET DRUMMING!
There are ten (yes ten!) color coded slides along with the form and instrumental identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students (a great way to talk about the variations of the theme with inclusion or exclusions of certain instrument groupings) and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats. Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)
This is a long one (5.5minute song) so it may take a little while to get through, but with most of the sections repeating and with some work over time, it'll surely be a hit!

- The X notation that is stacked with quarter notes are played as shots (think like a marching band snare drum -- playing the drum and stick simultaneously as a rimshot or on top of each other -- whatever will you get you the best accent!)

A film music favorite from one of the all-time greatest movies of the 21st century makes its way to BUCKET DRUMMING with an arrangement from the opening title sequence to the movie The Greatest Showman with "The Greatest Show"
There are six all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 2, 3, 4, or 6 times). Then, apply it to drums!

Lots of repeated sixteenths and eights in this one, and albeit a slower tempo, it can definitely give your kids a challenge -- but needless to say, if you know a bit about this soundtrack, this will ultimately have your kids engaged!

Need to connect with your kids with their pop music through general music? Involve them in some advanced bucket drumming with Twisted Sister's smash hit from 1984, "We're not Gonna Take it"!
There are seven all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated in groups of 3 times + 1 time). Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)

Tweaked from the 2015 version from the beginning to end with more eye catching layouts and updated music, the 2017 follow-up to the #1 selling "Identify Form in Pop Music" series, we now present to you
Part FOUR!
Kids love their pop music, right? Want to integrate it into your classroom? This is great lesson to do with 4th and 5th graders that lets them listen to their favorite pop music while learning about musical form!
The lesson begins with an introduction to popular music and how the music is formulated by the artists songwriters. We talk about the intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and outro, and include the collision and the channel and then go onto our activity.
I cut out cards... a whole bunch of intros, verses, chorus, bridges, outros, channels, and collisions (or you can do it with a whiteboard/marker, or even as a unison class response) and give them to each student, then have have the kids sit on the floor. I then play an mp3 of a song which has 10 second clips of each of the sections (there is about a 2 second gap in between each clip and all clips are safe for little ears -- no profanity!) and have the students identify them by spelling them out on the floor in front of them. This works great if you're putting kids into groups of 2 or 3 as they try to figure out the form of the song.
It's a great compromise to having your kids listen to their music and still satisfy a 4th and 5th grade standard in identifying the structure of music!

Part FIVE!

Felt Board (Flannel Board) Songs and Poems

Felt-boards (or flannel boards) are a fabulous method of sharing music and rhythm with children by using visual props along with songs. My collection of songs and poems will help you to use your felt-board to its fullest potential. This set includes 30 songs and poems that are appropriate for preschool and kindergarten, and are perfect for circle time, group time or music class. Use these books to help your students learn the triplet rhythm! The rhythm and beat charts help with decoding triplets and the worksheets provided help with the practice of writing a triplet rhythm. In addition, you can discuss and explore social emotional learning with "A Hug is for Holding Me." Some lessons are adaptable for grades PreK-3rd grade while the Tanabata Star Festival Lesson is for the upper grades.

Once your students have learned the first melody for Little Blue Truck, the melody stays mostly the same but the lyrics change with each different Little Blue Truck book that you own. This makes it easier to plug into future lessons involving these books.
