This resource includes 8 engaging worksheets designed to strengthen your students' essential mathematical concepts related to numbers up to 120 and coins. Through a series of seven engaging exercises, your students will develop a strong foundation in number relationships, addition, subtraction, counting, and more with coins. Each PDF contains four skill-building pages, making it easy to integrate this resource into your weekly lesson plans. It is an excellent resource for teachers, homeschooling parents, or anyone looking to reinforce these skills.

Exercises for Every Weekly Homework:

Exercise 1: Identifying Coin Names and Values

In this exercise, students will write the name (Penny, Nickel, Dime, or Quarter) and the value of each coin beneath them using the cent symbol (¢).

Exercise 2: Solving Addition with Coins

Students will solve the addition and represent the result by drawing coins of 1, 5, 10, or 25 cents, using as few coins as possible.

Exercise 3: Counting forward the value of the coins

They will count forward from a given number of cents. Students will have to count forward by ones, twos, fives, tens, or quarters, depending on the value of every coin.

Exercise 4: Counting backward the value of the coins

The same as the one above, but this time counting backward.

Exercise 5: Calculating Coin Values

Students will Calculate the value, in cents, for each set of coins and use the cent symbol.

Exercise 6: Drawing Equivalent Sets of Coins

They will draw 3 different sets of coins that are equivalent to a given number of cents.

Exercise 7: Fill in the Cross (+1¢, -1¢, +10¢, -10¢)

Students will work on nine cross-shaped grids, each with a provided number of cents in the center. Their task is to complete the four fields of the crosses using mathematical operations: add 1¢, subtract 1¢, add 10¢, and subtract 10¢ relative to the central numbers. This exercise enhances their understanding of number relationships and basic arithmetic.

First Grade Math Measurements with Cubes and Centimeters

Practice measuring objects with squares and by centimeters with this first grade math ring set. There are 2 math ring sets in this product. Set 1 has two difficulty level, while set two is a standard measurement ring.

1. Measurement with Cubes: The level A set requires students to use the pictures provided to determine the length of the object by comparing it to the cubes. The level B set requires students to use the cube sticks to measure the blocks to determine their length.

2. Measurement with Centimeters: Students will use a centimeter ruler to measure the length of the objects.

There are optional recording sheets available.

Acorn Nonstandard Weight and Measurement Task Cards for Kindergarten

Use real acorns in this nonstandard weights and measurements task card activity set. This Kindergarten measurement center allows students to compare weight and measure lengths and heights by using nonstandard units.

Task Cards Included

  • Which one weighs less? (12 cards)
  • Which one weighs more? (12 cards)
  • How many acorns equals the objects? (12 cards)
  • How many acorns tall is the object? (6 cards)
  • How many acorns long is the object? (6 cards)

These task cards use a variety of easy to find materials to compare the weights of acorns with common classroom supplies. The same materials are also used in the measuring length.

Here is the list of materials needed to do all of the task cards.

The following materials are needed to complete these task cards: acorns, balance scale, base ten blocks (or small wooden blocks), bottle of glue, building bricks, crayon, coins, counting cubes, dice, dominos, dot markers, erasers, glue stick, marbles, marker, paint brush, paper clips, pencil, and a toy car.

By storing the cards and acorns in task boxes, teachers will have an easy to set up and clean up activity. Gathering the necessary materials may take some time, but once gathered, this becomes a fun, hands on math center to practice nonstandard measurements.

Set 1: This math rings shows two objects and students must determine if the object on the top is longer than or shorter than the object on the bottom. How to use:

  • Project one scavenger hunt slide at a time.
  • Students will get up and move through the classroom/their house and find an object that fits the scavenger hunt slide description. (example: Find an object that is longer than a marker.)
  • Students will come back and share the object they found! Students can also record their answers on the recording sheet provided.

Make teaching measurement fun with this Ocean Measurement Activity.  Students will measure the length and height of ocean animals using non standard units.  No prep Google Slides™ and Sessaw™ activities with a matching printable black and white mini book.

Students will love using the links to measure these adorable ocean animals.  Use the digital activity for an example in the whole group, or for distance learning.  This activity is also perfect for centers.  Students will be eager to measure everything around them!
