French Christmas Sentence Building Cards-Writing and Phonics-Écriture de Noël

By La trousse de Madame

Students delight in creating unique and funny sentence patterns using a 1-2-3 step strategy. Students use cards marked ’1’ to choose the subject of their sentence, cards with ‘2’ are the action words, and cards with location words are tagged ‘3’. Put together the subject, verb, and location cards and make a new sentence each time. Teaching writing in your Grade 1-3 French Immersion class has never been easier.

What to do:

Make a class set of the cards, laminate, and cut.

Place a few copies of the 1-2-3 writing template sheet into clear pockets or give students an individual worksheet to work on.

Watch students delight in creating new and unique sentences as they build confidence in their French writing skills.

How to prepare this resource:

Make a few copies of the template page, insert into clear pockets, dry erase pocket, or use as individual worksheets and watch as the giggles get started. Make a copy of the story cards, laminate, and cut. My students LOVE these activities. I cannot make them fast enough.

There is a little cutting and laminating involved with this activity but many use clear folders to make your job easier!

Perfect for a sub binder, emergency plans, or as a back up activity when you happen to have a few minutes to spare. A great set to have on hand as an extra centre activity at Xmas time. Your K-3 Immersion students will love them!

When to use this resource in the classroom:

These activity sheets are Christmas themed and can be used for the entire month of December and even into the week following Halloween. Students love using them and they can be helpful for follow-up assessment. Just in time for progress reporting period!

I hope your students enjoy learning their vowel sounds and exploring phonemic awareness with a Christmas Theme!

Appropriate audience:

I use these activities in my French Immersion classroom with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. I feel confident that they could be used for any grade from Grade One to Grade Three.

Christmas themed math fact game for basic multiplication and division (1-9)

By Miss Yous Clues and Resources

This is a chutes and ladders style game but features Santa and his elves. This product includes one board game, directions on how to play the game, and 1-9 multiplication/division fact cards. You can choose whether you have your students practice their basic multiplication facts, division facts, or a combination of both. Review skills in an engaging, fun way this Christmas season! Students will race to be the first one to reach Santa while practicing math facts along the way.

Directions on how to play: Students will play in pairs. They must create a spinner using a pencil and paperclip. Spin the spinner to find out how many spaces you move. Before moving your game piece, answer one of the equations. If you get it correct, you can move that many spaces forward. If you answer the equation incorrectly, you lose your turn.

If you land on the elves, climb up their ladder to advance on the board.

If you land on the top of the string of Christmas lights, slide down to the space where it ends.

If you land on a space with the cat tangled in Christmas lights, go back 2 spaces. The first player to reach Santa wins!

Christmas Social Emotional Activities: Social Problem Solving Scenarios

By The Responsive Educator

Mix up your Christmas celebration with our Christmas Social Problem Solving Activity, crafted to nurture social and emotional growth in your students.

Swap out the usual Christmas routine with these engaging social problem-solving scenarios. They're the perfect way to infuse a touch of social-emotional learning into your Christmas activities, making it not just festive but also full of valuable lessons.

CASEL 5 Social-Emotional Competencies: Our scenarios are thoughtfully crafted to spark discussions around the CASEL 5 social-emotional competencies – Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.

What's Included

  • 3 social problem-solving worksheets, each with 5 different Christmas-related social situations
  • both color and black and white versions

How it Works

  1. Decide if you want students to work independently, with a partner, or in groups. Or have students work alone and then share answers in a class discussion.
  2. Students read each situation, deciding whether the child in the scenario made a good or poor choice. This process encourages critical thinking and reflection on social behaviors.
  3. For good choices, students explain why the decision was positive. For poor choices, students propose alternative ways to handle the situation, sparking meaningful discussions around social skills and empathy.

Sample Christmas Scenarios

  • Emma and Olivia's Christmas Eve Debate: Emma explains that, in her family, they get to open one gift on Christmas Eve. Olivia argues that gifts should only be opened on Christmas morning.

  • Zoey's Secret Santa Gift Reaction: Zoey and her family have a Secret Santa gift exchange. When Zoey opens her gift, she groans and says that she got a baby gift and that she wants something else.

  • Jackson's Positive Christmas Card Response: A classmate gives everyone homemade Christmas cards. Jackson tells them how cool it is that they made the cards and that they did a good job.
