You can adapt it to every level. Beginners should at least know the verbs être and avoir and some very basic vocabulary. More advanced students can go far, as there are many possibilities. ☞Just click here to follow my store! Merci! ❤️☜ Activity 1 Practice making conversation during a phone call from your friend, Luc. He will ask you to come to his party. Your lines are fairly open-ended, but they must correspond to what he says next, so watch out! Activity 2 Before moving on to the second part of this speaking activity, let’s review some of the most common professions. You can practice this new vocabulary by clicking on the link above which will bring you to a set of review exercises on Quizlet. This document contains a list of professions in English and French, then there's another part with only the French word and an image. All of the images correspond to the images found within the Quizlet study set. After reviewing the professions vocabulary, proceed to the next page where you will see a picture of 11 different people, all with different professions. Activity 3 Tout d’abord, comment s’appellent ces gens, quel âge ont-ils, et quelles sont leurs professions? Have a look at the people in this picture. Use your imagination to determine what their professions are (you may not have the same ideas as others, and that’s ok). Once you’ve determined their professions, tell us what their names are, and how old they are. Again, use your imagination, and try to come up with some French names! Look just below the picture to see an example, then complete the exercise by providing the same information for the other 10 people in the picture (left to right). Activity 4 Now let’s imagine we’re at a party (une soirée). It’s time to make polite conversation (ce qui peut être difficile, mais nous sommes très polis, et intéressants!) Let’s imagine that all of the people in the picture above are at the party, but they don’t know each other. It’s time to make small talk (faire des rencontres et des échanges), en français! Activity 5 Randomly choose two people from the picture above. You’ve already established their names, ages, and professions. The objective here is to have two people who don’t know each other make small talk. Guided Conversations: 

Guided Convos provide a scenario about a familiar topic and an outline for students to use to keep the conversation going.   Students work with a partner and choose the role of Person A or Person B. They can trade roles, trade partners, or even do the same exact conversation again!  They never turn out the same way!  Students report feeling much more confident and able to keep conversations going after practicing a few times! 

These conversations have 2 different versions for Novice High students and 2 different versions for Intermediate Low students. 

Integrated Listening & Speaking: 

ILS activities are done alone.  Students will listen to a recording, and be given instructions for how to respond.  They might hear: “Tell me about….” Or “Ask me questions about…” .  These activities mimic the speaking/listening portion of many popular Seal of Biliteracy Tests.  

There is a pre-made student activity that requires no language lab!  If you have a language lab or some other kind of recording software, the teacher script will allow you to record the audio for students if you desire.

There are 2 activities in this resource, each with 5 prompts.  They are designed so that the first activity is a bit easier and the 2nd one  a bit more challenging.  Use with different levels or at the beginning and end of a unit! 

✍️Scenario Task Cards:

Scenario Task Cards are my go-to for lots of things!  I display one at the beginning of every class and ask students to take turns talking about the scenario.   But I also use them as a lesson plan for a class activity!  I have students change partners and have them tell a story about 5 times in a row, each time with a new scenario and a new partner.  Then students switch roles.  Listeners become the speakers.  Finally, sometimes I print the scenarios and ask students to write about them in class or for homework!

Do your students struggle to grasp the difference between the reflexive and non-reflexive verbs? This sentence-sorting activity will give them hands-on practice with this often tricky topic! In this activity, your students will sort the given list of 20 English sentences into two categories: reflexive or not reflexive. You could easily adapt this activity for other tenses, simply by providing your own list. In addition to the hands-on practice, this resource also includes two worksheet versions of the same sentences.

This resource contains:

• one sentence sorting sheet
• one page of twenty English sentences with dotted lines for cutting
• one worksheet where students choose between reflexive and not reflexive and explain why their choice is correct
• one worksheet where students choose between reflexive and not reflexive and translate the sentences to Spanish
